Sounds like you have a good plan. If you are looking for coop designs or tractor designs here is a great weg site (it is the Geo Metro Forum of its kind) The site is searchable and ther people are very helpful and knowledgable - just like here :

http://www.backyardchickens.com/f/

And remember, practice saying "I do not have chickens sir, I have an endangered species of
Sri Lanken yard parrots"
Thanks!

I've been a member of backyard chickens for quite a few years.

It's a great site!

I have zero land so chickens are kind of out for me. I've been considering coturnix quail though, specifically the Texas A&M variety. They're supposed to have more white meat. Posted Image

havent raised chickens, but turkeys for a couple years. TOO many preditors here. Turkeys will lay like chickens though, as long as you keep pulling the eggs. I've gotten 5-6 dozen jumbo's from each hen.
.
Oh yea, we are not urban, but I figured most people didnt know turkeys will keep laying too.

Friend, you don't need any land to raise chickens.

They can exist safely and cleanly in your living room.

Have you ever heard of The Chicken Diaper?

Metro Nashville Council OKs flocks of up to six hens, with numbers depending on property space.

Even when the law is on your side, there's a neighborhood busybody who wants to call the cops!

Luckily, the police and Animal Control Officer know the deal!

Animal Case 11-18235

600 Block Tapawingo Road, SW

November 9 12:00 p.m.

A citizen reported that a resident was housing chickens on his property in a coup and believed

that this was a violation of law.

ACO Barker investigated and found that the chickens were being well cared for and that there

was no violation of any animal laws. The complainant was told to contact the Town of Vienna

Zoning Department to inquire about the unsightly pen.

500 block of Kingsley Road, SW

November 10 12:00 p.m.

A resident reported that a neighbor was housing chickens on his property. ACO Barker investigated and determined that the animals are actually ducks and they live with a rabbit in a pen. There was no violation of law.

there was a family that lived down the street from us that had chickens. the home owner's association threatened to kick them out of the neighborhood. they were a very strange family.

That's the problem with HOA communities. They're a private corporation and can operate with their own laws within a town.
