Just curious if anyone has ever had their pet bite into a electrical cord and if so what happened? I heard my little chihuahua making a noise to look up and see the most pitiful thing you ever saw. I thought sure she was going to die. She seems to have recovered. I am pretty sure she bit into a light cord but I did not see her do it. |

I'm glad she's OK. I'm just guessing that she'll never do that again, right? I've seen some cat chewed cords in the shop from time to time. No dead cats, though. What were they thinking? |

Not thinking. Reacting to the noise and vibration from the flow of electric current. At least that is what I have been told by my cat.

Remember my post when my dog,Bingo chewed into the power cord? It knocked him out and I did some half ass CPR on him and he started breathing. He seems ok. But it really did scare me. Glad your dog is ok.

Seems the big thing to make sure of is if they eat later that day, drink, and take a crap. If they slack off on those, then it's vet time. Most dogs are tough though. I had a dog get ran over, bit by poisonous snakes on multiple occassions, and still lived to be around 15 or so.

We're talking about a chihuahua here, Shinrin. I'm sure she's tough. I'm more afraid of getting the meat chewed off my ankles by a chihuahua than being mauled by a bear. |

From what I know of chihuahuas, the last thing they need is a sudden jolt of electricity..

Thanks for the picture, Doc. She looks good! May I suggest a treatment? Our dogs were shelter dogs and scared or nervous. Our Pom chewed his rear toe nails for a year- had to wear booties. Recently my wife decided to treat him with a homeopathic remedy suggested to us by a practitioner we met in our local pet store. Aconite Napellus. I got it online from http://www.1-800homeopathy.com/aconite.html for about $9 and shipping. It is for Sudden Cold Symptoms • Shock • Fear & Anxiety • Acute Sudden Fever • Sleeplessness in humans and it worked on our Pomeranian. We gave him 1 tablets of the 12X strength only when he was anxious. Not a regular dose. It was maybe every other day for a week and only once since in three weeks. He has not chewed his rear toenails in 3 weeks and has not worn any booties. The web site says: Treating sudden colds and easing shocked nerves are Aconite's specialties. For first aid, it helps calm fear and reduce shock after a scare, bad news or an accident. For sudden colds and acute fevers, Aconite eases symptoms in the initial phases – sniffles, sneezes, sore throats and inflammation, especially if symptoms follow a cold wind or emotional stress. Other applications include sleeplessness, restlessness, pain, burning headaches, eye irritation, acute ear pain and teething, especially if fear or anxiousness are present. |

chihuahuas are tough as nails. my julio was a 3 pound dog and the farm dogs across the road, a st. bernard mix and a german shepherd mix played tug of war with the little fellow. they literally tore him in half and he lost 60% of his hide from his shoulders to his haunches. his guts were hanging out when i threw a screwdriver and bounced it off the st. bernard's head. he ran back through the freshly mowed grass and into the garage where i was grinding and welding on a car. his intestines were covered in grass clippings and steel dust when i tucked them back in and wrapped him in a towel. i made the 30 minute drive to the vet's office in 10 minutes that friday afternoon. the next morning when the phone rang, i was sure it was the vet calling to say that julio hadn't made it. nope! they said i needed to come and pick him up. he was raising so much hell that it was winding the other dogs up. ![]() it took me over a year of nursing to regrow his hide. seriously, all that he had was exposed muscle. eventually his skin and hair stretched back over the part that was bare and he didn't even leak anymore. julio lived another 8 years, died from kidney failure at 15 years. yepper, those chihuahuas are tough little dogs. our current chihuahua, pepito, is the biggest one i've ever had at 21 pounds. he's as smart as a 3 year old kid, too. |

Glenn, I don't have to run faster than the bear. Just faster than you! Doc, glad the little guy's OK. At least she didn't step into a trap, like my husky did, while hiking in the woods the other day. A lot of screaming, a little bruise, and a lot of hugs, and all is good. Now go hug your puppy again.
