So over the weekend the mountain passes here in oregon got slammed with snow. My girlfriend and I decided we wanted to go on a road trip and we took the geo. With heavy snow and white out conditions the geo drove like a champ over 3 different passes. Everything was going well until the night before we had to drive back over two of the passes, which had been getting snow dumped on the whole time. We were pulling into a parking lot and all of a sudden we heard a metal on metal scraping sound coming from the rear drivers side wheel. All night I was stressing out trying to figure out what it could be and if it was going to be simple. In the morning I jacked up the problem wheel to try and find the problem. First thought was a bearing, so I spun the wheel and wiggled it around. Right away I new that it was a break problem. The brake was catching enough to stop the wheel right away but not enough to keep you from spinning it with your hand. Now I'm thinking its either a frozen master cylinder or a broken spring With the best luck, no one in town had the parts so I'm really stressing out now because I had to drive over two mountain passes. So without taking the drum off I wasn't sure exactly what was wrong. I started tapping the drum with my wrench and and spinning the drum. Ever couple of taps and revolutions I notice a trace of red dust fall out, so I continued to do this until finally..... Poof! What actually happened was a little cider rock had gotten into the drum That little rock that help you get traction on the snow kept me up all night haha.

Better it kept you up than kept you outside on top of one of those passes attempting to make repairs in the storm! |
