With optional 4 wheel drive like the old Subaru Justy -- the diesel power plant would have enough torque to turn all 4 wheels.

Why, because a culture of entitlement exists in America as a result of winning WWII.

They say it will come to the US as a 2013 model.

Aside from that, you can probably travel to the Ohkla Industrial Park, Phase I, New Delhi, Delhi, India and visit Crazy Rabawandi's Pick and Pull.

First, you must escape the bands of thuggees and face the challenge of the Kali Maah! Kali Maah!

Then, if you still have your bag of tools, search amongst the piles of wrecked cars in 110 heat, 95 percent humidity with venemous snakes and hoardes of maleria bearing mosquitoes. But be warned! You have to be fast as hundreds of indian children are scavenging too, trying to find something they can sell.

Don't offer the slumdogs any money or they will follow you everywhere.

Once you find your prize, it's a simple matter of lugging the engine back to your hotel where there will be much singing and belly-dancing. Package it for shipping back to the states.

Then you can figure out how to put it in a Geo!

I'm talking about the diesel version.

From what I've read online, a few analysts are predicting low sales on the Spark when it's available mid 2012 due to its size.

The 2013 model will probably be electric only, no diesel. A 3 banger diesel... big time cool factor.

10-4 on the slum-dogs and money. Once they find out that you are a foreigner, you are nearly forever followed. That was one of the first things that happened when I was en-route from the airport to the "5 star" hotel. Didn't give them any money though.

My bad. I thought the article inferred that the deisel version was on it's way in 2013.

I guess the only option is to deal with the slumdogs. It's still a nice trip if you can bear the smell!

Of course they might think you are totally insane to be looking for a Deisel Spark engine.

Maybe just ask the concierge at the hotel. Offer maybe $100 American dollars for the engine from a Chevy Spark and one might magically appear at the breakfast buffet for you.

Considering the average income there, I would think you could get one in great condition for $100 or so.

Now you have to deal with the 50 pound baggage limit on the airlines.

It will be the gas version first then the electric version will come out probably a year later.

America will never import or build a 3 cylinder diesel engine. Why, you might ask? Because the big 3 only make money on suv's and high end luxury cars. Small cars are there only to improve their CAFE standards fleetwide. Nope, Detroit will never do it.

The best way to get a 3 cyl BEAT diesel engine is to have somebody ship you each part once he scavanges it out of a junkyard in Europe or India. The border Nazis will stop an entire 3 cyl diesel engine at the border because it doesn't meet emission standards for the US.

Sorry guys, keep daydreaming.

That thing looks like a VW Bug with a severe need for Beano. Wonder what it will look like when the air escapes?

Because you (public) have a bad prejudice about diesel. All they can think about is the black smoke coming out of the tail pipe like those old VW and Mercs.
In reality diesel is cleaner and more efficient.
Hell a TDi VW get better MPG than a Hybrid on the frwy! but does anyone know that?

Because you (public) have a bad prejudice about diesel. All they can think about is the black smoke coming out of the tail pipe like those old VW and Mercs.
There is a very good reason for the bad perception, it is because of a.) the very cars you mention, combined with b.) the crap they cranked out in the 70s and 80s (GM in particular), followed by c.) the fact that easily identifiable diesels today (trucks, buses) are most often viewed spewing great clouds of black smoke into the air every time they are accelerating or climbing a hill.

Perception is a LOT, most people (the public) are not going to care that the reality is what you are stating, that particulates can be captured, that diesel can be clean, that it can return good mileage.

Instead, they are going to only see that truck or bus and its billowing cloud on their daily commute, or remember the problems from thin walled diesel engines from the 80s, or the garbage they grew up with, or the high maintenance compared with the 'get in and turn the key' gas car they use now. Diesels have a lot of bad public relations to overcome.
