Drove my Metro in what little bit of snow and it did perfect, not that there was a huge amount of snow. Changed the oil to 15W40 engine sounds good and I love driving in the snow, always have always will. Here people actually leave their vehicle in the lane of traffic in the snow and walk! This is with 6" of damn snow OMG!

:smackface Snow tire sales go like wildfire! Studs on in October for gods sake! I doesn't snow here until sometimes late January or February.

Think I'd dump the 15w40 oil asap. Little thick for the winter. Glad to hear you're doing ok with the snow.

+1 you shouldn't have anything thicker than 5/30 in there.

Last year in 4" of snow mine did great.

I am the one on the left.

i second that. 5 w 30 or 10 w 30, nothing heavier or you'll be singing the blues.

I am in Canyon Country area, and I go to Canyon High. And of course, I am referring to the snow up at Mt. High.

Why? I have read all the holding the valves open and no compression posts. Now think it over some. In a V-8 engine of any vintage earlier than 1990s. They have hydraulic Valve lifters, right? Once the lifters are pumped up they are as a solid lifter right ya with me? As long as the valve timing stays intact what theory supports the valves holding open theory? Valves not on the high step of the cam will close by the springs or did I miss something in there all these years?

valves would hang open moreso with the thicker oil you are running. you need to switch to 5w-30 asap.

Its happened before. These engines are not loose tolerance american v8s. Those things will run fine with a sawdust/water paste as oil.

Do what you like. It dont really matter, especially if you have a garage
to work in. There is plenty of "How to"s on this website

OK so what exactly causes this "problem" the cam controls which valves are open and the valve springs close the others so what has happened to others?

With 5W20 or 5W30 the engine rattles way too much for me
