what i have found that hangs them open is that the lifters just get dirty and they wont compress. usually from neglecting oil changes or using crap oil or both. the rattle you might be hearing is probably piston slap from the pistons just being loose in their cylinders. the thicker oil will quiet this noise because it will cushion the piston in the cylinder alot more than thin oil will. youre probably putting a bandaid on a motor that needs a rebuild right now if you feel the noise is too excessive. using that think oil might actually speed up engine damage. especially the cam journals which is the last part to get oil pressure. |

The lifters pump up and prevent the valve from fully closing. |

Went into our little town of 1500 and stopped at the tavern for a hamburger and coke yesterday. Looks like everyone in town has panicked and was at the local grocery store. I went over there and got some milk after my hamburger stop and much of the shelves in the store were all but empty. People around here go crazy with a little snow. forecast is for 6 to 10 inches here on the coast and it will only last for about 12 hours because it is forecasted to start raining and melt it all away. Cant believe these people.
