"Chicks dig me and guys think I'm cool."

As many of you know, I parted ways with my 1990 Geo Metro hatchback affectionately nicknamed "Snowball" in September to a man named Paul who flew from St. Louis to Columbus, OH to pick her up. Everybody has a price, mine was $3000 to let her go, and Paul was willing to pay it. Only car I've ever owned and sold for a profit, except for flips.

Anyway, I purchased a black 1997 Volkswagen GTI with 5-speed transmission. I like the way she drives.....really straight and true and the car runs quiet. I experienced a 20 mpg drop from the Metro, but it's much more comfortable of a drive and I'm not driving 80 miles a day now....more like 20.

All that being said, yesterday it was pouring down rain in Columbus, but warm in the 50's. That GTI was hydroplaning all over the place!! The tires have good tread, so it's not that, but I thought perhaps the wheelbase was setup differently than the Metro. I drove that Geo in rainstorms you wouldn't believe and never ONCE felt like I was going off the road. With the GTI, it's whiteknuckle time!

I sent Paul an email asking him how Snowball was treating him, and he responded "She runs like a Singer sewing machine." I take it that's a good thing.

Here's Paul, the new owner, with Snowball.

Just wanted to check in with you guys to let you know I'm still alive and kicking in the Columbus, Ohio area. I'm not dabbling as much with the Geo Metros these days, but still own two for my daughter. I check in from time to time and will see you at the Geopalooza in July.

I'm thinking that... some tires perform better in wet weather conditions than others... also maybe tire pressure and weight distribution can be factors.

Looks a little rounded. 1st gen s10 has a slight concave shape to it.

I bought the car that way from a man near Nashville, TN. I thought it was a Swift bodykit.

Lol...that VW should keep you busy.

The Mk IIIs were pretty awful cars (mostly made at VWs plant in Mexico), and sales were so low it almost caused VW to withdraw from the US market altogether in the mid '90s.

Still, it's hard to find those in nice stock shape. Most of those have been punked out just like Civics of similar vintage. If it hasn't been run too hard it might be okay. But overall they are a nightmare...especially the electrical system. Is it a 2.0 16v or a VR6? Can't remember what they were putting in those GTIs in 1997.

Been trying over the last two years to push all the awful VW memories out of my mind. Sell it before it falls apart. Seriously. :shake

Nice to see you stopping back in GeoStalker/90m :)

You know you are always welcome here, you have rehabbed many cars, have a wealth of knowledge hard won, and still have 2 nice examples of Metrii pictured above to entertain with, as well as many friends on the boards that like to hear from you now and again, don't be a stranger or forget your way back :type
