Ya California is a ripoff. BUT, the weather is amazing. All the laws with smog and EPA rules and so on are ridiculous. I always go to the same smog guy that gives me a break and he charges me 40 bucks. He is a test only station and i take all my cars and family cars there. Cali needs to relax already with emissions and smog. Go bug some other areas of interest. |

I usually tune up the car just before smog since it occurs every two years for me as well. New filters, oil, plugs, rotor cap, etc . . . I buy a couple of bottles of Chevron Techron and put them in a bottle at a time in every other fill up. On the day of the smog, I max out the air pressure on the tires so they have the smallest rolling resistance as possible since it goes on the dynamo. I'll run the car all day long doing my errands to make sure the catalytic converter is warmed up before I can take in for the smog check. After that I just keep my fingers crossed . . . If anything else, the bi-annual maintenance keeps my car in top shape. Though sometimes the smog test doesn't always see it that way.

Update~ Got the shift solenoid thing done & an oil change. ($400 ish) Only have about 30 miles on so instead of going for a MC ride I'm off in LittleG to clock some miles & do the TEST smog.($50) If it passes then the real one. Beats going to the Smog Nazis. DMV gave me a 2 day "free pass" to drive legally. I got tomorrow also. Will post up #s etc. Please let LittleG pass smog. |

interested to hear how you fair. I've got a new cat, o2 sensor, plugs, and a donor injector (Thanks Geo Glenn), of which I still need to install. Been fighting a nasty cold this past week and even now don't think I should go out and start working on the metro. |

YIPEEEEEE!!! We passed! I took it in & had it pre-tested & the numbers came out real good. The guy said it had failed smog previously to I had to take it to a test only place. RPM @ 15 mph 1845 RPM @25 mph 1905 %CO2 @ 15 mph meas 14.90 %CO2 @ 25 mph meas 14.95 at 15 mph- HC(PPM) ave 9 meas 3 MAX 81 CO(%) ave .02 meas0.00 MAX .65 NO (PPM) ave 57 meas 0139 MAX 558 at 25 mph- HC(PPM) ave 7 meas 5 MAX 65 CO(%) ave .03 meas0.14 MAX .66 NO (PPM) ave 50 meas 0004 MAX 845 Now that I am street legal maybe I can jazz up a few things on LittleG that need some TLC. |

Last time I registered my metro in California (San Diego) cost me several hundred fat ones because of the bs stories those damn DMV people thought up. Took the same car to El Paso Texas and cost me a whopping $62.50, the difference money wise is what state you live in. California is a known "Geo bashing" state. The worst part is that Texas charges for registration and smog seperatley and it still comes out WAY less than CA.

UH....I have to pay the registration and the smog separately also !? just like Texas but I still can't figure out why I pay the same as my 4Runner since I only paid 1200bucks for the Metro? |

I dont know about you robertino but whenever I go I only pay registration, smog is always included in the printed reciept near the bottom (maybe they do both?) I've never had it done seperatley before (the place is in Lemon Grove/El Cajon) |
