My main problems have been with buyers and sellers for the most part. One thing that bugs the crap out of me are the sellers who say they won't reply if someone asks if something is still available. WTF?? It's so annoying because of the equal number of sellers who don't remove their damn ads when its sold. So: #1: Ads that expire automatically after say 2 weeks. Perhaps just a simple disclaimer that people need exercise due caution. I live out in the boonies and have bought some stuff sight unseen using PO money orders. But I've had one a-hole shine me on for a couple of hours and then posted this as "proof" that I was a scammer: http://burlington.craigslist.org/about/scams When in fact I was trying to buy a Garmin Nuvi and had offered to pay for it w/shipping with a USPS money order. #2: Just a short disclaimer urging caution, nothing like what Craigslist has which is overkill. That's all I can think of for now. Good luck! |

That's because spammers have been using that tactic to get people's email addresses. |

I dont like the search engines. Usually it will be letter to letter. Some times caps even matter. Often I find that the seller has spelled something different or used and abbreviation or even added an extra space. If not a search engine that will look for other spellings/incorrect or common mistakes, then a spell check that works before the seller posts. Yahoo answers uses a "review" feature that forces posters to see their spelling mistakes and formatting. It makes it a LOT simpler to search stuff out. |

auto deleting adds, and they stayed longer based on their value in their group. i.e.: 20 dollar video game stays for 3 days, whereas the 200 dollar system stays for 10. alternatively, they could have a "mark as" thing like craigslist has; where you could make things to away quicker if you called and the item has already been sold. I'm sure all of this stuff would be abused, but you get the idea. |

So you think a login? Also where if someone is a spammer. Many people will have a spam button and get kicked off the site. (simplified version) |

As far as spamming goes, don't show that randomized email code, or your email at all using craigslist. Do something like this:

Thanks starscream. As for email, its gonna by hard to fix. I could say everyone set up an account and recommend people use that pm system so spammers dont get into your real email. Once you start getting spammed you could hit a spam button that would go into more detail saying "click on the emails you want to report". You higly the emails and they get sent to me. After looking at them its pretty obvious. or could recommend not using an email ot setting up a new email just for selling. also could tell people to just use a phone number. Yes you get a call about people saying they can sell your books. They are spam too but not as bad..... Its going to be hard to protect from spam..atleast 100%, but i only want u.s. Users as of now. The website is based more towards college students anyway..... Thanks alot for the ideas. Keep them coming. Also do you guys prefer more of a formality like ebay or informal like craigslist... imo ebays problem is that you really dont know how much they are gonna charge you....but imo it can be easier to find things. Craigslist is awewome that its free, but no formality and theres no real guidelines... Like i said all ideas are welcome.... Edited by Horn, Jan 27 2012, 01:14 PM.
