How much is too much to pay for a metro?

That's probably the cleanest metro I've seen. $2500 isn't really much these days for a dependable car that most anyone can work on themselves. If all is correct as seller states, then I think it's a fair deal. Wouldn't take long to get your money back in fuel savings. Paid 1750 for my XFI several years ago & it didn't look anywhere near as nice. Better get it before somebody else does.

If it is as nice as the pics make it look then yup, I would pay $2500 for that car no problem! As usual, make SURE there is zero rust. And ditto on Car Nuts post!!!

Haha Old Man :thumb I agree! Took me a LOOONG time to realize to just spend a little more and get a nice car to start with. You will spend a TON of time and a lot more than $2500 trying to fix up a trashed $1000 car. Trust me I know... Once you no longer miss your $2500 you will be sitting pretty, saving money, and enjoying your nice clean Metro that needs nothing. Hell, I am still okay with it even if it needs a little mechanical work!

Go look at it tomorrow. If it all checks out, buy it. :thumb

I have just south of $3k into my performance build. :news And it's still rusty, interior could be better, and the good sheet metal has hail damage. :shake I, however, have no regrets. :rocker

Not caring where, how, or when I drive is priceless. :nfs I had no idea how much my Jeep was costing just to run around. :oshit

If I was closer, we wouldn't be having this conversation. :deal Wife's car would be for sale tomorrow. ^o)

:gp Metro=freedom! I drive all over the place these days. Sometimes for no reason at all other than I just want to ride around. Why not...it will only cost some pocket change. Hard to put a price on that for sure!

I came up with that formula when I bought my 'Vert, even so I had a hard time justifying the purchase to my wife.---gotta admit tho when it got to equal dollars for "value, looks, and got to have" even I was questioning it........and it was more than that $2500 :shake

What exactly is a frame horn? Is it the end of the chassis rail where it meets the front bumper? Does anyone have a pic?

Is the average Joe likely to have the gear to do a compression check? What should this check show me exactly if I know the engine is ok?

I currently get around 90mpg on my Suzuki DR200. The metro will be for my wife as our Suzuki sidekick sport gets around 20mpg. My wife really does not like the metro but I know after the first few tankfuls she will be happy.

If you open the hood to a metro and look down to the right. the tie rod goes through a hole in the unibody. Usually the bottom part rusts out. check the passenger side too.
compression check is done with a gauge. closer to 200 the better. I think less than 150 is no good. if the compression is too low the engine will need rebuilt.

There is a buyers guide on here that you should check out

Very clean car but don't most geos need engine work around 150k. For that amount of dough I would do a compression check. I mean all would need to be perfect-- how long since the brakes have been redone? Most fronts go about 50k back about 100k. And this distance get less if things get more miles and start to get off center abit or dirty and gummed up. Then how is the EGR and throttle body doing?. Front end alignment? New tires? All electrics okay?

$2500 just too much in my area. $1800 the most no matter what.

Me I paid 150$ for mine and put a used trans in it and then I rebuilt the engine as long as I had the trans out. It is fairly clean. I have maybe $500 in it and a smooth trans, new rebuit in it and fairly clean.

No. Very few geos need engine work at 150. A majority of the owners on gmf have over 150k.

You are lucky to only pay 150. These cars will keep going up in price with gas.

I rarely see metros in my area, they usually sell for around 2k.

that's really clean! i wouldn't pay more than 1500 for a metro though. doesn't matter if it's new in box, 1500 is as much as they should go for in my opinion. unless it's not stock, then depending on what has been done to it i might pay more.
