Recently I've been in a position to start looking to buy another Geo Metro finally and I looked a couple that didn't pan out for 1 reason or another. I found an ad on CL today for a 96 Metro 4/5 2-door HB for only $500. The kicker is that it's got a salvage title due to being in a head-on collision with a dually pick-up (and drove away unlike the dually :) ) The damage is mostly cosmetic, a partially crushed hood and fender, no front left corner marker, no side mirrors. The tabs are expired since it hasn't been driven in a couple months but I can tow it home with my Dodge.

Thanks to some sweet talking and being clear in how I speak (he had a lot of calls from people he couldn't understand due to thick accents) he said that he wants to sell his Metro to me :) I should be getting it within the next couple days since he can't find the title and wants to do the sale the right and legal way.

Nice. Swap in a 16v and the 98+ front end

Definitely want the 16v, although I like the guppy mouth. Better aerodynamically. I would like to upgrade the suspension though since I tend to drive hard. FE is how I want my Metro to be built for.

I only plan on putting back on the drivers side mirror, a panel to cover the passenger mirror hole, and the front corner marker. I might replace the hood, but we'll see. I want to change the engine to the 16v, but only for FE reasons.

The 4/5 hb has to be rare....right? Ive never seen one. Either i see them in auto or 3 cyl. I know the 4/5 4 doors are uncommon (i miss mine)

They seem common to me. I see them all the time

It like depends on your demographic. I never see them here, but other people claim to see them all the time. Dunno.

Also a serious checkup on everything coolant & radiator related would be in order. Last thing you want is a cooked engine on the side of the freeway :banghead

Very nice find though!! :cheers

I'll be changing out all the fluids when I get it (trans, coolant, oil) and checking the condition of everything and doing a tune-up to make sure everything is up to par.

I rarely see the 4/5 HB's around here, they're automatics if mated to a 1.3L.

well that turned out to be a bust, unless I want a parts car. Turns out to get it titled I'd have to get both air bags replaced (with receipts as proof in my name) along with getting a detailed state inspection. Damn, I really need a Metro too and I don't have $2000 that I need to get one unless I sell my 87 Honda Prelude.

I'm fairly sure you'd have to buy new.
