So I lost my Droid phone today.

As most of you know I carry mail for a living. My route is "in da' hood". Literally. Shootings, killings, robberies, larceny, etc....

So today, I took some mail into one of my customers offices and my wife was ringing in on my phone. I ignored the phone and continued talking to my customer. Got back in my vehicle and promptly forgot about my wife's phone call. About an hour later, I noticed my phone and holder missing from my belt. How can that happen, you might ask? Easy if your a mail man.

So I get home tonight and tell my wife. She just about looses her mind. Tells me I need to contact our phone company and shut off my phone, yada, yada, yada....

Before I left the city I work in, I contact my carrier and they tried to help me. They suggest I try a product from Android Market called Plan B. This is a nifty app which can be remotely installed from my house via a text message to my phone. I get on my Gmail account and bring up PlanB hoping I can zero in on where I lost my phone with it's built in GPS feature. I can safetly say I lost it in a half mile square area, but it the worst neighborhood in town. So I'm sitting here waiting for Gmail to "ping" my phones location to me via a email to the home computer. ARGH...

After reading some reviews on PlanB, I am realizing that it might take a few days for the app to "ping" my phone and have Gmail email me with its location.

Has anyone tried this app? What's your results?

It's a Samsung Droid Charge. Neat piece of engineering, but was remarkably cheap. I got it for one penny on Sams.com

So it's not like I'm out a ton of cash if I don't recover it, but I would think it's pretty neat if I can recover my phone.

Yes, I have tested the 'Where's my Droid' app.
It's something you can send to your phone.
If you're doing it remotely, use the Lite version.

DO NOT wait to do this.
It will locate it within 10 ft...in some cases, within 3 ft.
Good luck.

:)

Also Lookout security works very well and very fast.

But this will only help you in the future since it needs to be installed before you loose your phone

Well, I just could not find my droid, but I did see a couple of pics it took while a person was handling it. Seems that at 12:42pm, just about an hour after I lost it, someone was looking to text someone. Hmmmm. There was only 42% battery power.

Guess the guys in da hood might not know what a power cord is, huh?

I'll just chalk it up to a total loss of a great phone. Back to the old standby.

Thanks for everyone's input.

Just get a trac fone. Cheap for service, cheap to replace. Ive used them for decades at least. I just use it for emergency calls and txting.

So sexting? If I stoled a guys phone, Id send him photos of my weener. :)

Next time lock the phone so if it does fall into the wrong hands it at least can't be used.
I use pattern lock on my droid x set to automatically lock after 5 minutes.

From what I read you can still try and find your phone. If it was me I would be trying every half hour or so.
Someone will charge it up and start using it.

Your location will keep updating for 10 minutes, and you will get an email each time it is located, whether the phone is moving or standing still. You can start the process again by texting “locate” to your number from any other phone. In order to locate your phone, we send you a text via SMS, so standard message rates apply.

Have you called your phone?

Imageo, I have called my phone several times. It keeps throwing me onto the voice message box. Guess it is dead now. Anyway, Mrs.Dayle1960 did her usual interpretation of a pissed off wife by raking me over the coals for being so inattentive with my phone. She did travel down to "'da hood" so she could walk around to find it. She thought I need to get a better mail route. She thinks I can snap my fingers and make a nice mail route majically appear. Haha

I'll wait a few more days to see if the crackheads who has it will charge the phone. Maybe when that happens Ill be able to reclaim it, with the help of the local police.

I am the one on the left.

I never understood the 'pissed off wife' routine. In my marriage we practice the 'you get what you give' mentality.
I have the sweetest most kind and wonderful husband ever. He thinks the same about me. Works for us.

Once a crackhead has your phone, its hasta la bye-bye. Good luck to you.
