Well, i got a good pay check today from work, so i went and bought us a new couch... didnt even have the thing home 4 hours and the dog pissed on it while we were out. Is there any way at all to get the dog piss and smell out of the couch or am i pretty much screwed? i poured lysol all over it, and soaked it in fabreeze and it still stinks.... Im soo pissed off right now its not even funny....

Scoobs, I use ammonia to pull dog smells out. Blot out all of the pee with clean paper towels until there is no more. Then saturate with a dilution of amonia and water50/50. let sit 20 minutes and blot dry again with new papertowels until no more liquid.
You may have to repeat the ammonia step a couple times.

The question is, do you also need to clean dog blood off the couch because he urinated on it?

ROFLOL I have tears on this one!

Put mouse traps on the couch when you aren't at home. Pet store also sells some stuff that is supposed to prevent such "accidents" & keep little pup off the couch.

Glad we know who owns who!!!

I am too late on this, Sorry. Ammonia should never be used to clean pet urine. Natures Miracle or one of several similar products available from pet stores really work. Here is a quote and link to the site. http://www.petsugar.com/Ammonia-Dog-Urine-8282987

Quote:

Dog urine is made of a combination of ammonia, bacteria, hormones, and uric acid. As the urine breaks down, the ammonia concentration increases and sulfur-containing organic chemical substances known as mercaptans are then produced. If mercaptans are in the air, even at low concentrations, they are very noticeable — they are the same substances that give skunk odor and rotting cabbage a trademark stench!

For this reason, you should never clean up his pee pee with ammonia-based products. Similarly to how dogs love to mark and revisit old spots, the scent of ammonia can trick him into thinking it's an OK, previously peed upon place when potty time comes again. I'd even go so far as to not using this in a pet-filled home anyway as to not confuse a dog into using the freshly mopped kitchen floor as a prime bathroom break destination.

Hey Scoobs - This stuff is what we use to clean up after rats: scoe10x.com It is not cheap but it works. At home I used it on a couch a cat pissed on (way worse than dog piss) - fixed the problem, and it stayed fixed. You do need to get it really soaked in the solution and let it soak. Lightyears better than Nature's Miracle.

The website is kinda cheesy, but these guys have a solid product.

Good luck!

Oh, I just saw you used Febreeze and ammonia already, in that case, maybe this scoe10x might not work ---- contact them first for advice. They are helpful. The reason is, the scoe uses bacteria to clean up the odor molecules in the urine stain, and if there is soap already on the stain, it will kill the bacteria and prevent the scoe solution from working. So I would ask them first for their advice before buying it. (I imagine prior treatment with Febreeze is a common issue for them.... !)
