16 year old girl + icy road = injured Metro...; Fender Bender

I drive an hour every day to work, so of course 200 meters from my apartment enterance a 16 year girl somehow spins out about 200 meters in front of me. She did almost a 360. As soon as I saw her, I started down shifting to slow down from 35 mph. Got into 2nd gear, but the road was so icey & I was on a slight down grade, I wasn't slowing down well at all. Her dad was right in front of her in his own car & stopped in the middle of the left north bound lane, the lane I was in & his daughter slid to a stop on the right north bound lane, so both north bound lanes were blocked. 2 cars were coming at me from the south bound lanes & I had a curb to the right where she rested to a stop. So I just rode...or slid it out until I hit her. I was engine braking, braking & finally pulled the e-brake to slide my passenger side around to her rear passenger wheel. I've got a pretty large dent from her wheel in my passenger door. It was dark, but I think that's the only damage. I'll take pictures tomorrow.

I hate it when that happens. So far, ice has resulted in crunched metal for me on only one occasion. :O

(Cough) We're in the USA. B-) Feet, miles, inches? :D

Meters? What it is that you put quarters in as a fee for parking? :ermm:

No one got hurt. No one got a ticket.

Waiting for pictures . . . :popcorn

Yeah, it could have been worse. OK, so between 200 meters & 1/4 mile haha I ran track in high school & college, so meters is my default when perceiving distance. The worst part is the sheet metal split at the crash bar in the door, so it's going to need some fiberglass, bondo & paint. I'm fairly confident I can pound out the dent pretty well, but we'll see. It's gonna be in the 20s this weekend, so I might wait till next week, but I'll get pictures up tomorrow morning.

I am the one on the left.

Glad you are ok.(You might start feeling it tomorrow...) Might it be easier to find a donor door? Lets see some daylight pictures. No one likes to have stuff like this happen. How fast were you travelling at point of impact? I know you were engine braking, just wondering if you knew.

New to you door. Wait for a rust free unit, the proper color, and on a 1/2 price day. $40-$60 - ish without the 1/2 price for clothing optional visitors.

I thought about trying to find a donor door too. I have yet to see that color in a junkyard, but I might get lucky. I almost got the car to stop before impact. It was like slow motion. I bet I was going 5 mph. Of course I left the dome light on last night looking for my insurance card and my battery is dead this morning. I wanted to pull the car around for better lighting, but this is the best I can do until I push it in the garage & get it on the trickle charger. The top molding is bowed out, so there is a pretty large gap between the window & molding now.

Why you Mutt!

Take the door panel off, give it a good kick. Might pop right back out. Worked for me one time many years ago on a '66 Malibu...

Clothing optional beach = great idea. Clothing optional junkyard = probably not such a great idea. :D

Here's a couple more shots now that I have it in the garage. I have the door panel off & I think I'll be able to pound it out fairly well. Unfortunately, the majority of the dent is behind a lot of metel, so I might have to get some leverage & pry against it. I don't think there is a cut in the metal either, it's just the silver pin stripe design. The tricky part is going to be the top though. Hopefully it'll come back toward the window once the bottom half comes out. The rear bumper has some scuff marks too, but that should buff out.

At least you were able to direct the hit away from all mechanical running gear.--might be a PITA to fix your door bit it is drivable all that time.
