Yeah, I'm really glad I was able to whip it around for a side impact. The lady in front of me went to the right up over the curb between some signs, but she had a truck. The girl had insurance, but MI is a no fault state, so in this case, it didn't really matter since your insurance takes care of everything regardless of who's fault it is if you decide to claim it. GMF member wanderling came over and we straightened it out some. The bottom edge is split and isn't going to get any better than what it is. We wedged a couple pieces of wood inside the door and pounded them along the crash bar. It worked OK. I wish I had thought of this idea in the beginning, but after Kevin left, I got a small basketball & wedged between the two halves of metal, hooked my travel air compressor to it & popped out a few more dents. This worked really well, but it bent my window regulator a little, so I had to straighten that out too. The mirror delete I had on there is just coroplast. My real OEM mirror delete came yesterday though. The top edge is pretty much back in place along the window. As far as I'm concerned, it's as good as it's going to get with my resources. I'll keep an eye out for a good light blue door.![]() ![]() ![]()

Glad nobody was hurt. Nice piece of driving. That looks really good mjspiess I got one of those cheap suction cup dent pullers a few years back and they work OK. Your basket ball idea is ingenious. To justify not being a body repairman I believe a few dents I can live with, and they reduce it's theft appeal.

You never mention whether the father was bleeding very much after you kicked him a few times for stopping in the middle of the road |

Thanks Bad Bent. I tried a plunger, but to no avail. Nah, no blood. He was pretty pissed I hit her, but I didn't have much other choice. He was just being a dad. It's interesting how people react in situations like this. His ONLY concern was his daughter, which I don't blame him, but he could have handled it better by getting out of the way

Matt, What is the color code on your car? I'll keep my eye out in the junkyards for one that matches. GG |

Here are a few more shots this morning. I'm pretty pleased. I checked for my paint code. Unfortunately as some point some water got into the hatch & of course right were the sticker is on the spare wheel cover, so the insulator material is currently frozen to the sticker I'm going to pull it into the garage & tinker on it, so hopefully it'll melt & lift right up, but if I had to guess the color is Sky Blue Metalic (249A/49U/WA249A). I'll let you know for sure Glenn. Thanks!Edit: Paint code is WA249A Sky Blue Metalic ![]() ![]() ![]()

Not bad, not bad at all, although I agree... looks are everything. It does say 'Watch out for me or I will hit you.' Possessiveness, ownership, materialism all tend to bring out our animal nature and not our spiritual nature.

I agree that it's quite the improvement. It may look even better had we thought for longer before trying to pound away the problem. And while functioning well is the most important quality in a Metro, looking nice is a worthy consideration as well. Edited by wanderling, Feb 12 2012, 03:11 PM.

i read in an insurance report somewhere that the three groups of drivers most likely to get in an accident are women, young people, and people who live in the north east. as someone who spends 4-8 hours a day on the road every work day (5 times a week) i would say middle eastern/asian women, the elderly and teenage girls are the worst groups, every single time i have been hit it has been by one of these groups. luckily the elderly drive slow enough to dodge. personally i think burkhas should be illegal to wear while driving. i have almost been hit by so many women wearing these, they have to be a visual obstruction, there's no way that middle eastern women are just that much worse than every other group of people. there also needs to be some sort of license suspension for driving and texting. i got hit by a girl who was texting in a parking lot while driving 20 mph. i was pulling out and i saw her and i was sure that noone was stupid enough to drive the 200 or so feet she was away without looking up. well she was and by the time i realized she wasnt' gonna look up or stop it was too late to pull back into the spot. i wanted to strangle her. she could have easily run someone over. people like that should get their license permanently revoked. |

According to this website: http://www.automotivetouchup.com/paint-codes/geo.htm 1995 is the only year to offer Sky Blue Metalic. I found a possible source in Deerfield, MI for $250 & definitely one in Richmond, IN. No price listed for that one though. I'll call on them tomorrow. |

The Deerfield, MI door is gone, but I have the one in Richmond, IN on hold. They want $150 for it which is $100 more than I'd like to pay, but it's coming from an LSi and has power locks, tinted window, manual mirror, no dents or rust. |

The masters of Metroism descended upon the Sky Blue Metallica Ricer this last weekend. The new to you door is installed. Ryan attempts to install the bolts in the door hinge. ![]() Ryan still trying to get the bolts in the holes. ![]() Ryan still trying . . . ![]() Ryan gets fired from bolt duty, and assumes a different position. ![]() Mjspiess gets the job done. ![]() Ta Da! The door is installed. No pin stripes, but there is the black trim strip to remove. Any ideas on how to get that off? ![]() |
