Hi Guys, ive just got a problem with my car,its got the Suzuki G13 8valve engine fitted. I recently went on a 100ml. round trip journey,i was in a hurry and i did a steady 70/75 mph,it was late at night and it was nearly all m way,as i neared the end of my trip i pulled over to make a phone call,i was stationary for approx 10 mins,on restarting the engine it was only running on 3 (4cyl engine),i looked under the bonnet to have a look round but couldnt see anything obvious I drove the car home on 3 and the morning after i took out all 4 spark plugs, all the plugs was rusty and had a huge gap and no 4 was badly oiled up,it obviously hadnt been firing on this one,i fitted 4 new spark plugs but the engine wasnt quite right,i think no4 cyl was oiled up so i took the car onto the bypass and gave it a good blast for 10 mls and returned home the car was now back to full power and running on all 4,BUT today i started the car and it ran poorly on low revs,i could feel it wasnt quite right as the car warmed up it ran much better but didnt quite tick over (750 rpm) 100% smooth and on starting of driving the car there was a SLIGHT hesitation. I have wondered what to look at next, possibly ht leads?dizi cap? the mind boggles i am a time served mechanic(over 50yrs ago) but because of the low rates of pay for mechanics ive usually worked in the heavy lifting business, ive only owned diesel cars for the last 25 yrs so i know very little about all the components under the bonnet of a petrol car.. Any help would be greatly appreciated but not to technical as i dont know all the names of all the components tom. |

Need more info. Check behind your vehicle when you start it up and look for smoke coming out of your tailpipe. You have more than one issue going on. Rust on the plugs is symptomatic of water being where it shouldn't. If its only slight, then it may be from condensation, and is nothing to worry about, for more severe rust, it may be a sign of a blown head gasket. Oil in the cyl is symptomatic of two things, the first is leaking valve stem seals, it allows a small amount of oil into the combustion chamber, and will usually smoke at start up, but clear up as you run your vehicle. the second is a broken ring on your piston. This will foul out your plugs rather quickly, and get worse and worse. It may be worth your time to do a compression test. This will give you more information than you currently have. Best of luck. |

Thanks for info the car did have a headgasket fitted a few month before i bought it also a new rad and lots of other bits and pieces but the spark plugs look like they havnt been out for years. The car uses no water and runs very well with lots of poke for a 1300,the car does use oil. I am thinking a compression test would be a good thing but its a bit anoying as the car has pleanty of power and runs very well other than a slight miss once warmed up. Thanks tom |

From reading your post, I recognized you are from the queens land. I used to work for Rolls Royce and have quite a familiar with the accent. I would perform a compression check first off. If all was fine before the journey, the high speeds may have finished off a ring or two. Cheers! |

Hi Guys thanks for your help,i wont say ive cured the problem but today i cranked the car up and she ran very well,i went for a five mile run up some very steep hills,2nd gear stuff, she ran very well,BUT i have a funny feeling i have the worst kind of fault,an intermittent fault so i am not going to have a celebration yet. In the next couple of weeks i will do a compression test and fit a new dizi cap and HT leads. iBLKBRY i thought Queens land was in Australia,Ha ha only joking i know what you meant, actually i am not a royalist. I dont consider 70/75 fast,if it was a company car it would have been 80/85,cheers and thanks again tom |
