Dropped key in flywheel.

I have a 97 Metro LSI 1.3L and I was replacing the crank seal. Instead of using a screwdriver to prevent the flywheel from moving as I tightened the crank gear, I used an allen key on each corner of the flywheel. It came off fine but when I went to tighten it back on one of the allen keys fell into the flywheel. I'm wondering how dangerous this is and if there's anything I can do to get the key out.

I would fish it out with a magnet if possible. It will fly around in there and possible damage something.

The allen key just barely fit through the teeth and there isn't enough space to fish it out through the flywheel. Is there anything else I can do to get it out?

Pull the flywheel back off.

Maybe drill a large enough hole somewhere in the bellhousing on the bottom to go fishing?

May be misunderstanding the "where" part, but would pulling the starter and fishing a magnet with a bent coat hanger down do the trick?

It might be redneck, but it will work.

Mr Bill, I dont think he ever had it off. He was just jamming the flywheel to tighten the crank gear.

Removing the starter and going fishing is a good idea. If that dont work drill a hole in the bottom of the housing the correct size for a 3/4 inch pipe tap. once everything is clear tap the hole and insert a pipe plug.

I never took the flywheel off to begin with. I'd prefer not to drop the transmission down, so I'll try the fishing method. Thanks.

Well, the only way to get the flywheel off anyway is to drop the transmission..... or pull the motor.
