Change the oil & add some Marvel Mystery oil first, before swapping out the lifters. Mine were VERY noisy when I bought my car & cleared up a few hundred miles after doing the MM oil.

The rpms should be at 850 when warmed up.

Welcome to your new forum, skykingjohn! :coffee

You'll be wanting to get a Factory Service Manual for at least one of your cars. I got mine on eBay for about $25 depending on the model. Click on http://www.ebay.com/geo+metro++service+manual

The engine information will be the same in all manuals for the 1.0. My FSM has separate sections on convertible topics.

High idle and searching is usually a vacuum leak of a bad/disconnected hose, bad EGR or an intake manifold-EGR-TB gasket leak.

I had hard starting for a while and it was the distributor posts corroding. Fuel injector is suspect. You can test the pressure at the TB/hose connection with a gauge if you want. Always a good idea to do a compression check to see what the compression numbers are as it might be a bad valve and low compression. http://geometroforum.com/topic/2574993/1/
