So the other day I filled my tank with gas for the first time and to my surprise the fuel gauge only moved to 3/4 full ... :banghead

What could be the reason behind this?? Sending unit?? Gauge needs to be adjusted??

No adjustment on the gauge. Metro fuel gauges are notoriously finicky, I fill mine and it doesn't show full for several minutes. When it hits "empty" it commonly still has room for a gallon or two, personally I don't worry much about it. It shows empty before it actually is so I don't have to walk unless I want to...

It's also possible that your vent line is partially clogged causing the gas pump to trip early and you only have 3/4 of a tank...

age old complaint--fully discussed on the forum before--gas guages are junk--use the guage as a general referance--get used to going by your odometer

My 1991 Owner's Manual says:
"Your fuel gage shows about how much fuel is in your tank. It is next to your speedometer.
The fuel gage works only when the ignition switch is ON. When the gage first reads E you still have a little fuel left, but you need to get more right away.

Here are four concerns some owners have had about the fuel gage. All these situations are normal and do not indicate anything is wrong with the fuel gage.

1. At the gas station, the gas pump shuts off before the gage reads F.

2. It takes more (or less) gas to fill up than the gage reads. For example the gage reads 1/2 full, but it took more (or less) than half of the tank's capacity to fill it.

3. The gage moves a little when you turn, stop or speed up.

4. When you turn the engine off, the gage doesn't go back to E."

IMHO, This line :It takes more (or less) gas..." is hedging bets on the gauge's accuracy from day one, and that is out of the Owner's Manual. :rofl
I did find that the gauge reads a little better with some Seafoam added. I'm filling up tomorrow and I'll see if it is any better after having added 2oz of Coleman (Naphtha) Fuel.

i'd honestly try a different cluster(with one you hopefully know reads correctly)

my old cluster never went to F, when full.

i swapped to a different cluster for the tach(not thinking it would fix the "gauge issue")

but it did :)
