So I decided to pick up a metro and had been lurking the st louis craigslist. Last saturday morning I found one and had another guy show up to look at the same time. Test drove and checked it out ended up giving $1400 after a small bidding war. Good interior except dash and a good body zero rust (texas car) Owner said it was his dads since new 140,000 miles but a used tranny at 110000 and a engine rebuild at the same time also has new control arms w/ball joints. He had all the receipts except for the engine. I look forward to learing about these cars and using this board, by the way my name is Joel

Hey what color was it. Im sure i saw it on cl....was it the one in edwardsville?. There is one on stl cl that says u have to bring wheels cuz someone stole his. Lol

Anyways if u need parts picknpull is the way to go. Just off 70 adelaide exit. Its on hall street. I have very good luck there.

U r lucky to find one with no rust. U obviously know stl gives vehicles cancer bad. Would recommend spraying the frame horns with some kind of thick coating protectant

It is red , was only on cl for a little bit, I already drove a 220 mile round trip and got 48 mpg!this was after a tune up, I am a carpenter and have been driving from st louis to fort leonard wood in my truck which only gets 18mpg this car will pay for itself! only one problem with the car, a knock from the engine rpm sensitve sounds like bottom end cant here it at idle , its not real bad though.Ill do a compression check i suppose and go from there . Worst case scenerio new engine. I dont mind @ 48mpg

If its a rod or crank bearing you should still have good compression. If its a slight noise and there is no water in the oil i wouldnt worry about it much unless it gets loud.
heck you can even get a block dirt cheap and rebuild it as you drive the car.

U mostly drive highway so throw a grill block on there. U should hit 50 mpg. Also use E0 gas not that E10 shit.

@horn thanks for the tips ! I was shocked about how cheap a remanufactured engine is @ autozone. Ive been to pick and pull years ago it was called U Wrench it then, we also have several yards here where I live, Im actually a little outside stl about 45-50 minutes from pick and pull.

Welcome aboard! If you think remanufactured engines are cheap then you will be delightfully surprised by the price of parts needed to do the rebuild yourself.

@horn Where are you buying E0 gasoline?
haha is that a joke? jk.....its almost impossible. I know in illinois there is a sticker that will say 10% ethanol. Some states do NOT require this so you need to check for MO.

Pure-gas.org has stations located. I use to go to st. louis/south county often. South county has a lot cheaper gas than illinois. Some times the best bet is jut to find the cheapest gas station. I moved last august to carbondale and I can't find any gas stations with E0.

Welcome to your new forum, lifterxxl! :coffee

I was about to tear into my wife's 96 because of an rpm sensitive knocking sound. I got out my mechanics stethoscope and discovered that it was coming from the EGR valve. :hmm Turns out it was th $1.58 gasket that had blown out. They are a good investment.

As horn12007 suggests http://pure-gas.org/ is a good place to go to try to find stations with E0. All 3 of my local stations are listed. If you are getting 48 mpg then 87 octane E0 might up that 2-3 mpg. My slightly modified Geo with front studded snow tires got 51 out of the last tank.

still though 48 mpg is great for either e0 or e10. I was only getting 43 when I first got my geo. Especially if you get 48 mpg winter. you will have no prob breaking 50mpg highway summer time.
