I'm looking into putting a aftermarket tach in the geo and was wondering, what rpms do the G10's redline at?

They dont redline. The power curve goes back down to 0 and the engine shuts off. Lol

Pretty sure I heard 6500 or 6800, but that you would never get it to that or some such. I'll try to find out and get back to you.

Ah, I knew I saw it somewhere :)

My 94 LSI's tach marks redline at 6500 rpm. I don't know how it gets the reading, but would assume it's independent of speed, gear, and probably tire size.

Yes, redline is 6500 but it runs out of steam above 5500, XFI above 5000. The G10 is an inherently torquey engine, unless you're done some mods, there's not much point in taking it to redline...

Redline is at 6500 and fuel cut happens at 7000. With the stock cam it will easily pull to fuel cut in the lower gears. With the 3tech econo cam timed at +6 degrees it will struggle to make redline. The engine just stops pulling at about 5500 and struggles up to 6000 if you just keep holding it WOT in the lower gears.

All of the above. :thumb

With the 3Tech 218/350 street/race cam and +10 o cam timing gear it redlines very easily. :D My 5" Sunpro tachometer has the shift light set at 6,000 and it's a pretty amber color.
It pulls beautifully after e,000 and purrs at 5,000. :D

lol yea I hoped someone would get it. I had no idea. I rarely go over 3k. Its pretty much pointless to go to redline.

Even running it to 5500 each gear, how fast are you really gonna go. 0-60 in sixty? I always say my car goes 0-60. (people wait for the time) then I'm like no it just does 0-60. lol

Well, if you need power then you can get it. Sure the Geo is an econo box but the G10 engine can be driven to full capacity and survive quite well. :rocker

We say it only has 55 horsepower but if you obey the shift light then you are using around half the available power - according to the power curve. Driving a 30 hp car at 50-55 mph is great FE. :)

BTW, 5,500 rpm in 3rd will get you up a 7% grade at close to 60 mph so you don't get run off the road by an F250. Or in 4th it will let you keep up with 80-90 mph traffic on an L.A freeway without incurring any road rage.

But to get the 50.88 mpg out of my last tank I spent a lot of time at 55 mph. :D
