Idle changed after replacing spark plugs, cables, and PCV valve

Hi Gang,

I replaced my spark plugs and cables, along with the PCV valve. The old one had the bottom broken/cut off, so it was basically just wide open.
After doing so, I started her up, and the idle was almost non existent. I drove it around and as long as I had my foot on the gas pedal, everything worked fine, but at the lights, it would idle so low, it would just stop.
I adjusted the bolt where the throttle cable pulley rests on when no pull is applied on it, and got it back to an idle of 7-800 RPMs.
Is that alright? It wasnt much of an adjustment, but I am wondering what would cause that to happen? Was it the broken PCV? Also, why would someone cut off the bottom of a PCV valve?

Cheers,
-Jay

Possible that the broken PCV valve was acting as a vacuum leak and a previous owner had adjusted the idle down to compensate without finding what the real problem was.

You really shouldn't adjust that bolt. That setting is for the throttle plate closed adjustment. Adjusting it is merely covering other problems.

The bolt you adjusted was set at the factory. When you adjusted it you changed the Throttle Position Sensor on the other side of the Throttle body. No, it wasn't much but it was something.

The screw to the right of the bolt is the Idle Adjusting Screw. you could mess with that all you want. Well, to get your idle set. :-/
