well it was bad fuel filter...but can not tell for sure it was the cause for high idle..as I have replaced spark plugs+wires+rotor+cap and cleaned egr and replaced pcv valve.....I also have removed each sensors and cleaned them...so can't say what solved high idle? |

Did you ever remove the TBI? Sometimes the seal underneath it sucks in a bunch of air and kicks up the idle. Placing it back on perhaps sealed it tighter than it was before. |

I pulled a metro tach cluster at the yard. I'll sell it to ya, or get your own. The resolution is not super fine, but get's the job done... gives me something to do while waiting to reach speed. lol |

hi v, mine's not an xfi but i've been struggling with a high idle for more than a month. many of those items you have checked or replaced could have contributed to the high idle. you also might check the throttle switch / throttle position sensor. small increments out of adjustment can change the idle. mine has slowed down .... beginning, maybe 1500rpm that would not decrease below 1100 rpm is now corrected to dropping to a brief 'hunting' mode up to 1300rpm for a couple of cycles and then dropping to specs at about 800 rpm. the hunting period is what i'm now trying to fix. i think i must still have a vacuum leak. additionally and curiously, i cannot get the problem to occur unless i drive the car .... it will not happen when simply bringing the engine up to operating temps at the shop. also i just realized that i have what appears to be a 'vacuum delay valve' in line to the map sensor. i do not recall ever seeing one in the diagrams or in photos here. do any of you have a valve in line? i never even thought about this in 360k miles ... has always been there. maybe i should start another thread to find out about this. |
