Anyone take into account unsurance cost or general maintenance? My insurance is $28 a month for liability. If i bought a new car i would have to get full coverage. $100? $150? $200? a month for insurance....no thanks. Plus new tire cost. Plus tpms sensor in the tire. for me simplicity in a car adds value. Thats me though |

well the assumption is "new car" so insurance would be relatively equal across all of them. |

we don't it was a theoretical discussion. you can not compare used cars to new cars because the new cars LOSE every single time without exception. even a 20mpg pickup truck is "cheaper" than a "new" 40mpg car in TRUE total cost. |

I have never financed a car. The very concept with the usury in our system is alien to my very makeup. To finance outside of your dealer would require "good credit" if you don't have that your not getting it. remember the VAST majority of people especially "now" have horrible credit as far as "loan" credentials are concerned. |

Does not matter if you pay things ontime jimmy. People sometimes make perfectly sound logical fiscal decisions and then the economy anal rapes them. You might say don't bite off more than you can chew. well some did NOT bite off more than they can chew. the economy TOOK their teeth so "NOW" they can't chew but the economy did not "TAKE" the debt when it TOOK the teeth. the core problem is the system is rigged. I was unfortunate to get into credit card debt "BEFORE" I was aware enough of their dangers (17yo college making good money) but then money did not come in so well. I tried to salavage college plane tickets home on the CC books on the CC I quickly realized it was not going to work and I dropped out of college (lack of funds) but the CC debt was here and the money no longer was. Now mind you I could pay my bills. no problem. I have never had a late payment ONCE. not one time. I sacrificed ANYTHING to make sure i had those payments ontime. but they do not play fair. they play by rules rigged to benefit them and only them at OUR expense. I was rigged and ready to pay down my debt. I even took out a very small loan to let me buy a Diesel Mercedes (two of them actually) and the gas savings alone "paid" for the loan. then pop got into trouble. we needed money for the mortgage. so I had a choice. renew the loan to get the mortgage money or we lose our home. take a guess what option I chose. and of course at a much much more usurious interest rate. the economy took a further dump. we LITERALLY live week to week sometimes day to day. all my cards are nearly maxed. I can only afford to make the minimum payments now. when the "card" act was announced the CC companies took the year delay in activation to "raise" the interest rate on all my accounts to near 30% I loved when I got a letter from discover all nicey nice hey we are not going to raise your interest rate before the card act activates like other companies are doing. ITS ALREADY AT TWENTY EIGHT PERCENT !!!!! The only real "ding" in my credit was when I defaulted on an account on purpose. the bank took my 9% fixed APR card and jacked the interest rate to 32%. My minimum payment went from $30-$40 to $160. I asked why and after some arguing it came down to this and I quote "Because We Can" I told them to stuff it. and when collections asked why I won't pay I said for the same reason you guys gave me. when she asked whats that. I said "Because I Can" You "CAN NOT" use "sane management and talk of responsibility" when your dealing with criminal organizations (and that is what they are) The only difference between these companies and the con's scam's and mafia crap they have going around is #1 they won't shoot you (unless its a student loan then swat knocks down your door seriously it happened) and they are "legal" and I use the world legal very loosely. Its legalized crime. as simple as that. If the interest rates were SANE and MORAL I would already be debt free. If I knew then what I know now you can bet your but I would not even HAVE a credit card today. Worse you get people who "PAY" responsibly for YEARS ON END and when the shit hits the fan ALL that effort and good citizen payments means NOTHING. so I tell people flat out. if you don't own anything they can take or you live in a state without garnishment. ONLY pay down credit cards if you KNOW you can actually pay them down. if you think you will "FAIL" before paying it down your better of just failing NOW and not dumping another dime into that hole and use that money instead to prevent the failure of another account. Because you get NO CREDIT for making ontime payments. ontime payments MEAN NOTHING if you can't make the last and final payment. all your hard work is "NOT COUNTED" unless you make the LAST payment. this is how our system is rigged and its not fair and its not moral. I tell every kid I know DO NOT get a credit card. its just not worth it. the ONLY people who can have a credit card without getting "SCREWED" on some level are those who can pay it "IN FULL" on demand. those people get the low interest rates because the banks know they "CAN" follow through on the threat pay it off and close the account. People like me who are barely getting by they have me by the balls and they know it. they know they can jack up my interest rate and there is "NOTHING" I can do about it. When the guy you owe the debt too is permitted to CHANGED THE RULES dynamically SPECIFICALLY to prevent you from paying down the debt. you can no longer make the valid argument that they debtor is doing something wrong. now TWO parties are at fault. |

BTW 645 is horrible credit. not trying to insult you but that is a pretty poor score. something must have happened to cause your score to dip that low?? make sure you utilize services like freecreditreport.com and creditkarma.com (both free official sites) make sure there are no "errors" on your credit file and if they are USE the procedure to dispute them. I have had several things pop up on my credit that are NOT mine. they are usually pretty good about removing them. Edited by nerys, Mar 1 2012, 01:17 PM.

I see. So basically you were looking for an opportunity to turn this into the "usury rant" thread. Got it. |

Yea nerys we heard before how you screwed up using credit cards. But we know irs all the systems fault and none of it is yours. If the system is so bad how could i (23), have a credit score of 766 only due credit cards? Oh and 766 is very good only due to credit cards I think 650 is fair credit. Make sure u dont use more than 20% of whats on your cc |

if you do it this way though it doesn't take into account that over time your fuel savings compared to previous/other cars will have paid off the car. i would look at it this way. if you paid 1000 for a 50 mpg geo and your previous car got Xmpg it will take Y amount of miles before the car has paid for itself. |
