Ive had erratic engine running at under 2000 rpm,ive tried fitting new spark plugs and ht leads,no difference,I just took the air cleaner off(new filter)and removed the fuel supply banjo union,i take it the other fuel hose is a return?,i then placed the fuel hose into a clear plastic 2lt bottle, then turned on the ignition, there was a fast clicking from under the dash and i observed half a cupfull of fuel pumped into the bottle then it stopped pumping,i turned the ignition off then on again and a small amount of fuel pump out then stop. I thought the pump would have kept pumping continually whilst the ignition was on ? My car is a 1300 cc Subaru Justy with a Suzuki 8 valve engine 1998,its a Suzuki Swift lookalike, any help would be greatly appreciated, the car runs ok over 2000 rpm,but a bit rough under,i did a 100 ml trip yesterday and it was fine other than when in heavy traffic tom |

When the key is turned on and car is not running, the fuel pump will only run for a short burst, then shut off. That part is normal. |

Your fuel pump is working normally. It could still be producing less than optimal pressure but would need tested with a fuel pressure gauge teed into the fuel line to determine that. |
