This past week I decided to try and see how many miles I could milk out of a tank of gas. My commute is about 100 miles per day, virtually all of it freeway. Usually get 49-51 MPG by doing the speed limit and trying not to be the front car. This gets me 4 days of commuting and a refill of about 8 gallons. This past week I spent as much time behind large trucks as possible. I didn't tailgate, but I didn't leave 2 seconds between me and them either - usually just over a second. Tried to find trucks doing as close to the speed limit as possible. MPGuino helped me monitor my progress the whole week. Result? 56.7MPG (493 miles, 8.7 gallons to refill), and 5 days on one tank of gas with fuel to spare! Success! |

Awesome!! I averaged over 56mpg in my 90 Metro on a trip to Destin, FL, and I was going 70-75 mph the entire way. I had to go that fast just to draft some of the larger semis! |

Nice. I was on the interstate and facing heavy winds. I was pegged and barely hitting 60. As a truck would pass me, then turn in front, my car would take off due to the draft. it was sweet |

...with my 1.3 L / auto in my '99, I'm content to be averaging 32.5 mpg over the last 12 - 18 months... ...looking forward to get the Vert on the road & seeing what i can do with the 1.0 / auto (besides being tempted to put a 5 speed manual in it). ...has anyone ever though / researched that maybe there is a 4 speed auto that would work in the Metro? |

It has been contemplated...but people usually decide a manual is better and go that route. |

I believe it was thought about enough that Woodie mentioned a transmission that should be close, maybe we can get him to mention it again, but then I think he will want a sacrifice in blood to an altar, and I'm pretty sure pics of an actual installation ![]() Here is probably the most complete thread we have on the subject -> http://geometroforum.com/topic/4242831/1 <- there are even links and stuff there ! |

Seems like it has been an issue discussed but no one has been crazy enough / determined enough / has had the time enough to try it. ...only thing it got me thinking about is swapping the auto out of my Vert for a 5 speed manual, but I haven't even though about the engine since I'm still in the process of putting the interior back together. |

Well, I sure wish someone would try it, the guys that love their autos would sure benefit from it if it could be done, and having a write up about it if it worked would be an awesome thing
