Usually because people can look at where you live, your name etc, take your license plate number and make up a phony charge like "they hit me and took off" etc. It's just a preventative measure against usless people otherwise known as criminals. Especially on eBay where you also show your VIN, makes it easy if they have the VIN and the plate #

Please just call me; "Schultz"

keeping their privacy private.
I care not myself.
My plates tell who I am and why you need to go around me.

Its a mystery to me. do they also tape over their vin# when they park downtown. Wonder what the cops say about them running with covers over their license tags?

i can give you a very good reason.

years ago, old blue was stolen from my driveway the day before thanksgiving. months later, it turned up when a guy in new jersey applied for a title. the national stolen car registry red flagged it, the cops broke up a stolen car ring that would travel the country picking up cars "to order." some guy saw my car on the internet, put it on his wish list, my internet pics gave the crooks my address, and blammo - car gone!

the cops told me that a car that's not found within 24 hours is usually never recovered. in my case i had to pay months of impound fees to have the car released, a huge transport fee to have the car trucked back home, and when i got it back it had been partially stripped and was pretty damaged.

it's too late for me to cover up my tag, there are 8 year old "legacy" pics floating around the internet. old blue has been used in craig's list and kijiji ads in the usa and canada, in ebay sales for various items, and even on car domain in other people's car pages.

For the same reason I tear out the address label on any magazines I give away.
I do not want strangers to have access to my private info.
Sure, I know that someone can just copy my license plate down while I'm driving around or parked somewhere.

.
how about all the crooks walking around the parking lot where you shop?
or the ones that see you driving down the street?
or the ones that drive by your home?

seems like covering your license on a pic is like removing a single wart
on a frog

After reading this I am going to cover both my front, rear plates and vin number. You want to see my plate number you need a car equipped with bright blinking blue lamps and even then I will only stop at a local police station when you behind me.

So I am not the only one who borrows a photo of a hot car to make a fake cardomain spot? I thought i was the shizznite when I used a hot womens photo to make a profile on a dating site to see how the men responded before I made my real profile to start dating.

Your vehicles and plates are at public places. Anyone can take a pic and put it online.
