So yesterday after I got out of class and my interview, I was laying down about ready to take a much needed nap. For some reason I went on craigslist, not expecting to find anything and what do I find? A 91 3/5 hatch in my area for 900 obo. Contact the owner and talk him down to 600. I then drive 40 mins to look at it. You guys all know how hard it is to find a cheap geo, so I had to check it out. I get there and the body is actually in pretty good shape but the interior was kinda shot. no biggie. You guys all know to check the frame horns and I was expecting straight rust. To my surprise no rust on the frame horns at all!!!! Stabbed them with a screw driver and they were solid. What I didn't understand though is that under the floor panel it was very rusty. The engine runs, needs a tune up, timing adjustment, and has a knock or a tick to it. Checked the oil. there wasn't any. So I put a quart in and it didn't make much of a difference. So in all for $600 it wasn't bad at all. As i'm looking at the car I am trying to figure out what to do with it. I then realize I CANT DO SHIT!!! I couldn't have bought that car if it was $300. I'm at college and would have no way to get it home. Where I live I can only have one car. Man it was frustrating to see a geo with solid frame horns and not be able to buy it. Really I could have just adjusted the timing and sold it for double back home. (actually I would have kept it) and sold my current geo. Man it sucks letting a good deal, especially a good geo go.... If it was that low on oil it probably had been low before and i wouldn't have trusted that engine to last very long before major problems occur. You're better off letting it go. Ken.... |

I have to agree with 91, that oil didn't just get absorbed into the block like a sponge, it went somewhere. That it wasn't replaced by the guy selling it before you checked it means it has probably been driven oil starved many times. Sounds like an interesting afternoon out though
