"Chicks dig me and guys think I'm cool."

What about using railgun technology for the automotive industry instead of just the military?? If you can fire a bullet at 7 times the speed of sound, shouldn't be able to propel an object weighing a ton at around 60mph???

crap a well driven metro can do the trip from levittown pa to san francisco with just 41-48 gallons of gasoline which means using E10 thats about 37-44 gallons of gas and the rest ethanol.

so 10 gallons is "not" that impressive really when you can do it with a $1000 car on just a hair over 40 gallons of gasoline. get some E0 and maybe under 40 gallons.

Done - my post - will wait for a responce

I find this project extremely "questionable" in relevance.

if he is using 10 gallons of gasoline and using E95 does this not mean he is using 190 gallons of Ethanol "WITH" that 10 gallons of gasoline?

or does he mean 10 gallons of E95 ?

Even if he means 10 gallons of E95 I find such a feat very "umimpressive" besides using larger than stock tires (I use 13" tires instead of 12" stock tires IE I use the tires that ARE stock for my car a year later)

my $600 Geo Metro can cross the country from levittown PA to Sanfrancisco on between 41 and 48 gallons of regular old nasty E10 pump gas.

under 40 gallons if I get pure gasoline (I gain 5-9mpg when I can get rid of the ethanol)

On such a trip I can EASILY average 60-65mpg with 70+ NOT out of the question.

so why is this impressive? am I just missing something here?

Its important that people realize that increased fuel economy is a waste of time.

Case in my. me. I drive a 60mpg geo metro (yes I get a consistent 60mpg in the summer 50mpg in the winter with a lifetime approaching 55mpg over the last 3 years and its going up)

Does gettting 60mpg save me money? well if you think about it logically the answer is no. this may sound semantic but when I get to the second part its no longer semantic sounding.

I save money NOT because I get more mpg but because "YOU ALL" get less mpg.

the price of gas is based on the quantity of gas SOLD. sell less and they have to raise the price to secure the same revenue.

if we buy more gas they can lower the overall price and secure the same revenue. Lets be clear SUPPLY AND DEMAND have nothing to do with the long term price of gasoline and very little to do with the short term price of gas.

Right now average fuel economy in the US is 20mpg. if I wave a magic wand friday morning and POOF the "average" fuel economy in the US rises to 40mpg.

average fuel price is $4 a gallon.

anyone want to take a guess what the average price of gas will be saturday morning?

thats right $8 a gallon. they would have no choice. the choice is raise the price to $8 a gallon keeping the price essentially the SAME or take a 50% revenue cut??

now of course there is more then revenue here you also have political aspects BUT you get my point. as average MPG goes up the price of gas "MUST" go up with it.

this means your CPM. or COST PER MILE stays the SAME over time but only if you buy the new higher mpg cars.

if you can not do this you get screwed. because you are now BELOW the curve in the same way "I" am "above" the curve.

the only solution is to REMOVE the absolute control that the people above us have on fuel. not just opec but ANYONE.

the only way we currently have to do this is Battery Electrics.

Hydrogen is a massive scam. Hydrogen is what they WANT. they get to proclaim GREEN GREEN CLEAN CLEAN while retaining total control over the FUEL SUPPLY and therefore the PRICE. I want nothing to do with hydrogen. I can barely afford to drive a gasoline fueled car no way can I afford to drive a 35mpg $7 a gallon (equivalent) hydrogen car. and a very expensive HIGH MAINTENANCE hydrogen car.

which is of course EXACTLY why they want hydrogen cars. retains PROFIT MARGINS.

Ricketts, with some small research grants and help from MTSU students, has refitted three used cars - two Toyota Priuses and a 1994 Toyota Tercel - to run on compressed hydrogen, batteries, or E95, which is mostly ethanol with a little conventional gasoline mixed in.

It appears he was going to use more than one vehicle.

"My big goal," he said, "is to go coast to coast on sun and water" - extracting hydrogen from water in the lab with solar power - but he ran into trouble getting the needed hydrogen tanks to make the trip. That's why he switched to E95; otherwise the trip would be gasoline-free.
