I've done this to around 10 or so Miata tops. Go to walmart and buy some shoo-goo and some black vinyl from the craft store. The shoo-goo (might be under another name - rubber used to patch tennis shoe soles) gets spread on a vinyl patch and then applied to the underside of the convertible top. Hold it there for a while and then don't mess with it for a day (don't drive the car). You will end up with something that will last for a long time and will not be very noticeable from outside the car.

I had done the same to repair the skins on top of my pop up camper, after a storm made itself known to the pull outs. its been 4 years, folded in and out.. does a bang up job :thumb

Get some black RTV silicone sealant. Put some duct tape on the inside/underside of the hole, and fill the top of the hole with the sealant. I've done this with 2 tears in my top and it works pretty good. You can't see it unless you're up close and it stops the leak.

For some odd and inexplicable reason I can't understand, I find this answer compelling :hmm

Turbo3 and Twincam Tweaker

a trim and top shop would back the tear with a piece of vinyl and use waxed string to stitch across the tear. then they'd smear goop over it, charge you $50, and call it repaired.

make your repair from the inside with the top up (so the vinyl is stretched tight.) that makes the fix look better from the outside.

i hate pricks that do that sort of thing to other people's cars. if you happen to catch the guy, give him an extra lick for me.

A few months ago I bought a very nice brief case at a yard sale and put it in the seat when I went into the store. My passenger side door handle is broken. Some son of a B,,ch thought there was something in the case so they cut the top and got it. 10 dollar yard sale brief case=200 dollar top. I need to order a top this weekend. any final suggestions? :banana :banana :banana

Yes, I carry a Keltec P32 with me for times like that. Park at the same place with another case in there and wait in the bushes...

The Shoe-goo may also be called Goop. It is available in clear and black. The black will work well to hide the hole.

Because you only understand the duct tape concept. Everything else is foreign to you!! :P
