I just changed the water pump on my 91 metro and I went to put it back together when I was screwing in the bolt that has the square cylinder looking bolt that screws down the piece that has the spring on it but my problem is there's a wire looking thing it actually looks like a paper clip that was unravelled. But where does that paper clip looking thingy go. Thanks so much everyone

this is the clearest pic i could find in short order.

it's a double spring. both loops go through the hole in the adjuster cam lever. both other ends go onto the extended bolt on the oil pump as shown.

nerys, if that question about the aluminum water pump is for me, that's an oem aisin replacement, unpainted (as it's a service part) and bolted on "out of the box."

i don't paint oil pumps, either. it's easier to see leaks from both pumps if you don't pretty them up.

also, the oil pump is a different story. i only use hard to find high volume oil pumps on my turbo3 builds because the oil pump has the additional load of supplying oil for the turbo. given the option, i hand select the pumps as well.
