Has anyone made a 100 over, engine yet on the forum? i was having a discussion with one of my mechanic friends about 70 over and 100 over engines done on 305 V8s and 350's, when he looked at my G10 block sitting on the stand, and said, have you checked to see if you can do a 100 over on this? Lol Why would you go that big?

Duct tape heals all wounds

I can't imagine. I've only ever gone as much as needed to bring the cylinder back to true for the next available part size, removing more than that is unnecessary unless you have some specific goal in mind.

10? I guess if you got enough meat you cando that. It woudl take a while to bore out. Or you can just forgo the cylinder and sleeve it for what you want. Then stroke it. My shop prof was big into stroking engines.

100 would be WAAAAAY to much for our engines. Taking that much off the sides would cause real weakness on the side wall of the cylinder. Asking for trouble. Plus you would have sloppy pistons beating the piss out of the cylinder walls afterwards. Wanna see some pics? hehe

I think 75mm is the most you should really go without resleeving.

Turbo3 and Twincam Tweaker

the g10t i'm currently building is bored to 75mm to accept specially coated pistons from a g16 16v vitara (pistons courtesy of turbine tech.) that translates to a 40 thousandths over bore.

that's about the limit for the sleeves on a g10.

the last project engine i built had defects in the cylinder walls that were deeper than the bore limit. i had my machine shop remove the bore liners and replace them with new sleeves. the sleeves, labor, and boring to the 74mm standard ran $100 per hole vs. the $25 per hole charge for boring them to 75mm.

i really haven't checked into what would be required to machine the block to accept new liners that could be bored 100 thousandths over to accept a 76.5mm piston. i do know that pistons from a g18 (again, a vitara piston) are available from ycb. the problem i see with that mod would be limited space in the surrounding coolant jacket between pistons #1 and #3 with the #2 cylinder. there's already a problem with cooling the #2 hole which leads to failure of the piston's ring lands on a standard g10 (especially a turbocharged 3 banger.)

Did the same thing to a 66 chevy 283 block and came up with a 301 as old racers sometimes called it. same as a 302 chevy, would spin to 8000+ rpm but had NO low end torque.
