A safety concern; Geo broke down on the road?

Today I was traveling around the interstate and its currently under construction so they had the large concrete barriers blocking off the safety lanes to pull into when you brreak down. Well sure enough a person had broke down on the interstate and the car was in the traveling lane because he had no other choice and no where to go. Well on the interstate the cars traveling 70 miles and hour makes for a dangerous situation indeed. It dawned on me how much safter it could have been with five or six saftey cones out behind the car to warn and drive the traffic into the other open lane instead of rapidly approaching the broke down car to find it broke down and stopped. I believe I am going to find some of the small ones and put them in my cars.

Je conduis une petite voiture.

Get one of those "Cuidado - Wet Floor" signs too. That will really mess with their heads.

Might want to consider flares or some such in case it happens at night, in the rain etc. You know it will happen at the worst possible time. :x

I used to carry flares... they're a good buy, only a few dollars a piece, take up no room in the trunk, and they're great for lighting camp-fires, and grills during cookouts.

Truck driver carry the triangular reflectors and place them 50, 100 and 200 feet behind the truck on a divided highway.

I have small cones that are 6" in height that I got 20 years ago. In today's traffic I believe flairs would be great.

I realized I don't have any flares (that I know of their age) :shake
thanks for the reminder!

I have been fortunate to not have needed them yet, but have driven by drivers who had them deployed. Driving by at 60+Mph they still really caught my attention, extremely hard to miss especially at night.

If you want to get REALLY prepared - get some of those orange cones without holes in the top. Cut holes in the top *just* big enough for a flare to stick up out of it snuggly.

Now you have the best of two worlds - a bright flare, a very bright orange cone and a flare stand! :D

My monteros came with flares from mitsubishi. the first one I bought had 4 flares iirc when I got it. I tried one a couple years ago to see if they were still good. 15 years later and it lit off with no problems

Do the flares have hot runoff like the wax from candles? Just wondering if that would melt the cones... :hmm

The way things go with me, they would start a grass fire on the side of the highway and I would be responsible for paying the fire department bill for putting out the fire. :banghead

Car accidents are really rampant these days. Some are accidents, while some are really factory defect. Car recalls are getting common news. Then, it was Toyota and Nissan, now there's news that Road salt corrosion leads to Jeep Liberty recall. So it's best to have your car regularly checked to avoid these accidents. Better safe than sorry. Hopefully these car recalls will give us better cars in the future.
