98 Chev Metro 1.0L ManualTrans Hello EVERYONE 1st post on this forum, Your help is greatly appreciated! I just finished pulling the trans out of the car (Thank you very Much --> J.Mullet!!) and everything has been smooth... Until I got to the part of removing the clutch. I was having trouble removing the bolts due to the flywheel spinning on me. So I stuck a screwdriver in-between the teeth on the flywheel and trans housing to jam it so I can spin the bolts off. Well that worked Now to remove the fly wheel... (Might as well change that out too- bought a New Flywheel) Ha!! The might as well be welded on. The screwdriver jamming technique is not working and I do not want to break any of my teeth or that of the flywheel. I Went to RTFM and it specifies ""USE J-35271 IN ORDER TO HOLD THE FLYWHEEL STATIONARY"" I thought hmm.. How about jamming a pulley up front? Nope the belt just squeals as it slips. I went back and called everybody in the area for this mystical J-35271 Flywheel holder.... Might as well be from NARNIA --> Nobody has it. My question is how is everybody else locking the flywheel? I do not want to torq/bend /misaligned anything. I do not want to give myself a bigger problem. Will a Kent Moore Flywheel Holder DT-47562 for the Aveo work? It is very similar? It moments like this I wonder " Why am I missing patches of hair...AGAIN?" Edited by 'JackTupp.RtFm, Mar 11 2012, 12:02 PM.

Use a half inch impact. Or have someone hold the crank bolt while you remove them. |

This is the only way I've ever done it. I'm assuming that you don't have an impact wrench? |

I thought about holding at the crank but I am afraid of over-torq on the crank or it coming undone. Have you had any problem doing it this way? |

The crank bolt is torqued a lot more than those bolts, you should not have any problems. |

I used to use a Craftsman flywheel spinning tool. Also you can use a burnzOmatic to defeat the loctite holding the bolts on. Why are you pulling the flywheel? Make sure to use a little loctite when you go back with the PP bolts and the flywheel bolts. Not a lot. Like the other guys. I use my air impact to remove and reinstall the bolts. The flywheel bolts are very hard. The smaller bolts holding on the PP are pretty soft. Install these with a ratchet. Not air tools. |

I just had a friend hold the flywheel with two hands from the top and I broke the bolts free with a 1/2" drive breaker bar from the bottom. |

Thank you everyone for the quick answers. I ordered an aveo fly wheel lock and it worked, Now... I am not sure If I used it correctly but I managed to get the thing off and on. One of the reasons why I am having such a hard time is because I am new to this military base and and doing this SOLO. Half the people in my office do not know what a breaker bar is and those that think they do--> believe its a protein bar. Now for some down time and fun on 2wheels. Again thank you.
