1.0 you cannot leave this thread without telling us about your intentions as you were fiddeling with the radio and running the red light. Tell us something about how many lives you saved or maybe prevented the collapse of the universe.
Perhaps we should hold GMF court and ask Johnny to make a ruling as to this red light scoff law. A ticket just doesn't seem to be just enough.
There hasn't been enough squirming or weaseling, its hard to make a ruling with just the facts.

My boyfriend received a ticket in the mail with a nice vivid picture of his jeep running a red light during a date & time that I was allegedly driving it. Since the ticket came in his name and it's his jeep.... I shouldn't be held accountable ... right? :P

It must have been the Geo forum hex.... I'll have to explain the cure to him and help with the left testicle thing. Maybe we should do both just to make sure. :rofl

Well 93MC remember our legal system is wholly corrupt and 99% of the time written in favor of the state NOT justice.

YOU ARE NOT held accountable. the owner of the vehicle is. PERIOD. the law is corrupted so no matter what HE is held responsible UNLESS (but not always) you come forward and admit it was you.

the ticket came in his name BECAUSE it was his jeep.

there is a guy in california was it ?? that got away with this by wearing a paper bag or monkey mask over his head. IE they could not "ID" the driver so could not enforce the ticket. ie the law was not completely corrupt. they had to ID the actual offender.

I would never pay a "camera" ticket under principle alone (unconstitutional its not possible to face your accuser since your accuser is a camera and the officer is going purely on hearsay since he was NOT PRESENT which is not legally admissible in court at least its not supposed to be under our laws) its not about whether you "did it" or not with most camera's. I have defeated TWO red light camera tickets by showing the dash cam footage that proves it was green before, during, and through the intersection. ie not even yellow not even close. without the dash cam footage my guilt would be presumed as fact. ONE I made a right turn ON A RIGHT TURN green arrow and the camera covering the perpendicular intersection "tripped" and took my picture so of course it showed "red" again without the dash cam I could not defend myself against such an accusation.

I am not kidding when I say I WILL NOT pass through a "camera covered" intersection unless I have a camera running. if no dash cam I take out the cell phone and hit record if time is short I PULL OVER and get the camera out (no joke) same with automated TOLL booths. I have ALSO defeated one of those tickets by having the video clearly show the right amount of change and me depositing it in the machine AND the machine giving me the green light to go.

after you get "burned" by a few of those you learn real quick not to trust them. I decided not to "GET" burned.

but that is besides the point and a WHOLE NOTHER topic :-)

the law is written to FAVOR the state almost always. which is why HE got the ticket and why HE is legally HELD to account for it.

you will have to check your local laws. sometimes YOU CAN NOT claim responsibility for it HE must take care of it. if its a no points type thing (many times camera tickets are not criminal in nature not insurance in nature just a statutory offense like a parking ticket) sometimes they do not even attach to your license PURELY civil in nature IE you are not even legally obligated to pay. the worst they can do is put a mark on your credit for a "Debt" owed (and it will have next to no effect on your credit)

if you did run the light and your state allows just go online/in person and "pay" for it if you were driving.

I would be interested in seeing the picture you got. in mine they never showed the LIGHT only the car front and back. does yours show the light being red?

BTW I also defeated a parking ticket by having a camera handy. I was parked on vine st in philly (helping a friend install some camera's oddly enough) anyway you could only park till 1600. from 1600-1800 it was no parking since they used the extra "lane" to handle higher traffic loads.

I came out 4 minutes till 1600 AND the meter showed 4 minutes LEFT on the timer. yet I already had a ticket and so did the cars behind me and 3 cars in front of me (the 3rd in the process of getting a ticket)

I record all this and "note" the time on my ticket is not even "HERE" yet. I include my cell phone screen my watch AND the clock on the building nearby in the video all showing the times match up yet my ticket was from 11 minutes into the FUTURE. (1607)

I walk up to him and ask how he ticketed my car 11 minutes in the future now?

nothing but attitude. hyper nasty to me even cursing at me and threatening me. he stopped cursing immediately after I lifted the already running video camera toward him.

I left a business card on 5 cars that had illegal tickets on them. 4 of them contacted me and I gave them copies of the video too.

It was immediately thrown out when I showed them the video. they asked me for a copy (which I was prepared with on DVD for them) I presume to go after the guy.

damn I wish I kept these videos. this was all over 10 years ago long before I got into "youtube" etc..

now I won't goto philly with my car unless I know I can park in a garage or its REALLY important. I avoid that corrupt place like the plague.

I think my sarcasm in that post must have been missed...

There is no doubt I was driving my boyfriends jeep during the time in question. There is no doubt I ran the red light, I misjudged the time I had to cross the intersection when I saw the light was yellow... it turned red, I ran it, I knew it was a camera intersection, I saw the lights flash when the picture was taken, and thats that. I had hoped that maybe I was already in the intersection before it turned red, but I wasn't... the pictures (I beleive it was two or three from different angles) showed this as fact. I paid the ticket.

While I don't doubt your research on the matter of Law and who they may hold accountable.... I feel that sometimes it's just a matter of integrity and only I can be accountable for my own. I do what I feel is right and I accept accountability where I should because I want to be a good person. I don't agree with fighting something just to see if I can get away with it or not face concequences. I deal with it and hopefully I learn from it.

oh no question. integrity is always a good thing.

I am just saying the laws can be "weird" some states only he is held responsible otherwise people could just start saying "oh I was not driving" so its not my problem.

I don't remember who was driving.

they eliminate this problem by decreeing that the owner is legally responsible. IE CYA for the state :-)

And that is a fine point, in your current case. But I feel like I'm in a small minority that is angry and scared that the red light cameras presume you (not even you, the registered owner of the car.) to be guilty no matter what. It's just a revenue generator for the city it's in. And I'm really bothered by the fact that red light cameras, and speed trap cameras exist.

Agree with you there. I don't know why people put up with them. Several years ago they put up a stationary radar device on a trailer chained to a pole to show you your speed . In less than a week they came back to haul off its bullet riddled carcas. People around here just voted against it. Never seen one out here again.

and its a proven fact that they INCREASE accidents at intersections (just instead of side impacts you end up with more rear endings but they don't mention that)

and many places have been caught CONTRACTUALLY REDUCING the yellow light time to "create" more revenue.

anytime you add PROFIT to LAW justice takes a back seat to profit. every single time. without question.
