Way back in this thread -- (post #10) I gave you a list of members who live in this area. Have you PMed them and see if they will help you with some of this stuff??----- if not, why not. If you ask for advise and people help you, you have to do some stuff yourself |

I got a power drill (an old one with a cord ) and a synthetic wheel like this from Harbor Freight: which have a twist-lock disc holder to attach to a drill.Hold the drill carefully, wear eye protection and maybe a dust mask. Let the disk do the work of grinding off the rust and paint until the metal shines. The anti rust stuff is either Ospho or Evapo-rust of some Rust-Oleum product. So it depends on how big a hole it is as to how you want to patch it. Old Man suggests the best way but there is also fiberglass/resin and even a "steel putty" for small holes. Maybe a muffler mend paste/putty. Your next purchase should be a black service manual: http://www.ebay.com/1991 Geo metro service manual starting at $24.55(?). Remove the wheel. I'd mark the tie rod where the lock nut is with a marker then loosen the nut. At the spindle I remove the cotter pin, loosen the nut, back it off until it is flush with the end of the tie rod then hammer the tie rod end out. Upward swings of the hammer. You will want to get an alignment unless you are accurate with installing the new tie rod end to the same location as the old and tightening the lock nut. Or you can check the alignment DIY: http://www.lightweightmiata.com/geo/alignment/ They do make tools for tie rod end removal but it will likely destroy the rubber seal. http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=tie+rod ...and the nice thing about DIY is you get to keep the tools, experience and knowledge.
