I'm in California and gas is expensive out here. $4.20 per gallon is about the cheapest. I commute a lot (about 400 miles per week), and I've been driving my Nissan Titan which only gets 17 MPG on the highway. So I decided needed something more economical and picked this up today:

1994 Metro 3 Cylinder 5-Speed
145,000 Miles
Top end was recently rebuilt professionally, and there's good compression on all cylinders.
Paid $1600.

So far I love it. I drove 34.9 miles today, and only used .623 gallons of gas. That translates to 56 MPG! :O ...that's with out any tune up at all, and no mods. I've done nothing to the car so far. At this rate, it will pay for itself in a matter of months.

From what I've seen of this forum so far, it looks like there's a plethora of knowledge here. I can't wait to learn as much as I can and max out my MPG. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute some knowledge too. :cheers

so you talked him down from $1900 to 1600...

You know there is a guy in Walnut that buys and flips Metros...He's always making these long adds about how wonderful these cars are and then he hits you with the price...$3999 for a 91 wagon at the moment. :shake

Look I love Metro's I really do but I would not fork over that much money for a 91 wagon!
I bought my 99 for $1100.

Cool. Once I get a better idea of what I'm going to do to it, I'll let you know what parts I need. I'm pretty sure I'll need stuff for the AC/Heater, neither of which works right now, but I can see that it came from the factory with both originally. I'll have to figure out how to get them working.

Barstow and San Bernardino.

After I calculated my mileage, I thought it was possibly and XFI as well, but according to the VIN it's not. 56 MPG seems abnormally high. I figured out the MPG by topping off between two gas stations, so it might not be perfectly accurate.

Yep. I can see you've been looking at Craigslist ads. :D

$1600 was more than I wanted to pay, but compared to the other Metros I looked at, this one was just so much more mechanically sound, despite not being in the best cosmetic condition, so I don't mind over paying a little.

Yeah I see those too. I think he re-ups that same ad almost everyday. That sure is a nice looking Metro though.
