My name is Jakub. Recent grad from Syracuse University with an MS in Mechanical; currently working at the university but looking to move into industry. I am also a proud owner of a 1995 Geo Metro which was bought for a buck . The car ran fine for a little less than a year and then the water pump went on me. Did not touch it for two months and then decided to fix it myself. I am rather mechanically inclined but never owned a car before and never had a chance to do anything besides change a tire. I managed to fix the water pump and changed the timing belt while I was at it (112,000 miles). My success was partly due to this forum... thank you. I did have to improvise a little since the tensioner for the AC/power steering was broken off and the only thing holding it prior to removal was rust. I threw the rusted parts into a parts cleaner and bought a long bolt that I used as the tensioner adjustment. There are a lot of other problems with the car: engine leaks oil, exhaust is rusted out and tail pipe has fallen off, no headlights (fixed this.. thanks forum), CV axle is shot, rotors below 15mm, and the frame is rusted beyond belief. Somehow it did pass inspection and this weekend I decided to tackle the CV and rotors with a buddy of mine. The passenger side rotor came off with the aid of bolts in the threaded holes. The CV was not a big pain besides the fact that the new one didn't want to go in and I actually had to swap the c clip from the old CV because the new one was not cooperating. The real problem was the drivers side rotor. Both the caliper bracket bolts were extremely rusted and one came off with the aid of a breaker bar and the other one snapped off . Since the head came off clean, I was capable of taking off the rotor and the bracket. Took the bracket down to the machine shop I work at and tried to take out the broken off bolt. Tried PB blaster and the torch. Did not work. Tried Locktite Freeze and Release. Did not work. Finally just threw the bracket on the Bridgeport mill and drilled and tapped it. Got everything put back together and things seem to be working fine.I took some pictures along with the repairs I have done and in the future when I get time I might add to the database that you guys have already put up. This is me next to the Geo during a Syracuse Flurry ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us Edited by Jmwalcza, Mar 26 2012, 09:35 AM.

OK I have to ask... How did you score a Geo for a dollar ? Was it a family member?
