Hello everybody I just bought a completly busted up metro and I am gonna fix it up. I'm gonna need a lotta help lol. Just bought it to learn how to work on car better and figured I might as well get one that once its fixed will get good gas mileage. I bought a 1991 geo metro base model I think except it has AC!! ((Which I will never need living on the Oregon Coast)) Well when I can learn to post pictures I will so everyone can get a good laugh. I bought it off craigslist for $400, they wanted $600 and I was gonna offer 'em $300 but they looked like they could use the money (who doesn't need more money right now) Anyways heres whats wrong just to list a few. The transmission has a hard time going into 1st and 2nd gear(no grinding just wont go) neither window rolls down (off the tracks and prolly missing parts), the drivers side door panel is missing along with window crank and handle has to be held in alignment with its hole to get outta the car. The passenger side inside handle works sometimes, both doors sag really low, the hatch has no key cylinder(previous owner handed me some parts in a plastic baggy) quite a few dents all around with a nicely replaced front right fender that is halfway painted and already dented, I'm pretty sure both passenger side wheel bearings are busted, and will prolly need the tierod ends replaced as they are loose and sloppy, and the sterring wheel is almost at a 90* angle to the right when the wheels point straight. Leaking upper radiator hose and well you get the point. Any help and/or tips are appriciated in advance. Help me out and lets have some fun, I'll post picture write ups when fixing things to help others or give good laughs whatever come first.

Welcome aboard. The transmission synchros are worn out, but it's still useable if you get used to double clutching or rev matching to downshift. My 92 is the same way and to get into second, I pop it in neutral, push in the clutch, blip the throttle and hold shifter back and it pops in. I don't use first unless totally stopped. All those other issues will come with time. |

thanks for the tip!! tried it but it only went once out of like 10 tries. I dont want to hurt it more so ill try to avoid it until I get the little stuff fixed and then i'll replace the syncs. |

Welcome to your new forum, Oregon2! Could be worse, my '91 came with the engine in pieces in the hatch. Most of us are using Synchromesh in the transmission which might help. Window links might help; Window Adjustment[/URL and Window Regulators for Dummies I did both inner and outer bearings on my '91 and it may improve the gas mileage. You can/should repack the "sealed" bearings before installing. How To Front Wheel BearingsIf you find you need and can't find a replacement rack and pinion assembly let me know. I have one in a box that needs a new tie rod; I believe. Garo would give me $25 minus shipping if you want it you can have it for shipping and $20? |

Welcome to the forum, Oregon2 ![]() Sounds like you have your work cut out for you. The early years...89 - 91 get great gas mileage. Congratulations.
