The thing looks real purrty, picked his brain too. Come to find out, I guess I went to school with his younger sis (don't remember her), and my bro ran over his next-door neighbor's dog on a dirtbike when I was 12. :rofl Grew up in the same group of trees...

I will take pics. Hoping to have it done in the next few days if my wife doesn't go into labor... :scared

comp now warm wet 160/70/110. runs decent...

got the head off after some time with the boy... #2 is the only cyl that looks like it burned the exh valve. the tiny holes in the gasket make me think I might be lucky it didn't smoke like crazy... maybe the exemption of the check valve by PO could have offset pressure/flow

what did you refer to as the small holes? the ones in the head gasket? The OEM GASKET HAS SMALL HOLES, dont enlarge your holes... just get a new check valve, and a mark Ebay guy head gasket.

i've been amused for years as the "oil hole" has attained the status of urban myth. :D

the smaller hole leaves room in the return pocket in the head to allow de-foaming of the oil as it leaves the head. the oil temperature in the head is high enough that the oil is the viscosity of water and it gets most of the bubbles in it popped as it runs over the edge of the gasket. when you make the hole bigger the oil, foam and all, goes straight down the hole to the sump. with no drip edge to pop the bubbles, they just float around on top of the oil in the sump.

do you really think that the suzuki design engineers would screw up that bad and not correct the supposed problem in the millions of g10 engines that were sold worldwide in 12+ years of production? :D

Got 70 MPG?

Good explanation, I've never thought of it that way, but you must also keep in mind all of the other larger drain holes in the head. The bubbles are going back down there any way.

Well, I dunno, they did miss the valves burning themselves out and the sohc 4 cylinder rocker arm thing, so anything is possible I suppose :dunno

foamy oil in the head? how does that happen? but I agree, that hole must be sized this way for a reason, however, that reason may not apply to all our worn out engines:)

That head has been off before. Probably to fix a burned exhaust valve. I can tell by the paper intake manifold gasket, and no fire ring connection on the head gasket. It's most likely to burn another valve.

I can see distortion in the reflection in the #2 cylinder.

It's best to check the cylinder bores for out of round when you have the head off. 0.0039" is the factory limit. 0.0025" is my decision to bore oversize.
