I just bought a sweet Metro last week 93 XFi with only 38,000 original miles!
It runs pretty good

I would love to meet some people around northern VA with a good deal of geo knowledge to perhaps help
me work on this beauty.
Somebody with some spare exterior parts for cheap would be nice to.

WOW! 38k original!! Nice find. I would think that it would run perfectly, not simply "pretty good" as you stated. Welcome here!

Yea The engine is pretty solid. It seems like a lot of the rubber is dry rotting though, belt cracks, and the rubber on the engine mounts seem bad causing a bit of vibration. Probably from sitting as long as it did.

Does your odometer have 5 or 6 digits? Are you sure it's 38k and not 138k miles?

A 93 should have 6 digits..actually, that might be 94 and 93 would be some 5 and some 6.

Welcome to your new forum, GeoVA! :coffee

May be time for a tune-up and new vacuum lines. I do it to any "new to me" vehicle. On the motor mounts - the 3 cylinder does shake a little more than a regular 4 cylinder engine. Here is a DIY link on motor mount upgrading: http://geometroforum.com/topic/4306632/1/ by starscream5000

It has 6 digits, the car only had one owner before me, an older lady who just drove around town to the grocery store and what not.
It seems to have been at the hands of a teenager im guessing for a while, some one tore up the interior to install a pretty distasteful speaker job though.

The reason I'm suspicious is due to rust on certain components of the engine bay, including the bolts and top of the tranny arm. Also the dent and rust on it and sun decay on the driver's side window strip, the valve cover and top of tranny appear to show a history of leaks and abuse, the lines on the back of the firewall appear rusted, the top lip of the bumper and bumper itself don't match....was it involved in a front end accident? It's possible this car was driven 38k actual and left to sit in the sun and rain for years.....does the title say "Odometer exceeds actual mileage" or something like that?

All of my observations appear to be from miles of "use" and not years of being parked or sitting in the elements. I could be wrong and hope I am wrong, but it's something to check out. Have you run compression?

EDIT: Great! I'm glad you checked those things out.

Yes the car was involved in a minor accident, the alignment is good though and the frame is not bent. However yes the bumper was replaced the owner told me his friend did the work he obviously was under compensated, or over compensated with beer. :(

Im a little suspicious of the mileage to, the title was clear though, it was the original title dated 1993.
Good thing I got it for $1000 so I didnt pay extra for the low mileage.

I would like to run a compression test hopefully this week. The cars inspection is dead and will certainly need a bit of work to pass.
I can do most minor car maintenance but it would be cool if someone could help a brother out doing some more major work.
After all im here to learn from the pros. :)
