Hola from the Lone Star State! I recently had to sell my motorcycle... and so after much searching and deliberation I picked up a 1992 Geo Metro LSI 1.0L 3Cylinder, which I'm hoping will get me through the rest of college and beyond. Not quite the MPG I was getting on my Shadow 600, but it does have A/C ![]() It's pretty clean... on the outside, but with some shampooing and a big vacuum the interior isn't too bad either. Luckily it needs a little work done to it so I can get my hands dirty, but it's basically in good conditions. 135k miles. I know there is probably tons posted about these, if yall could give me some advise or link me to good threads I'd appreciate it! -I've got 4 different brands of tires and two of them wont last too long. The guy at Discount Tire quoted me about $650 to get 14" rims with 175/65/14 tires, and said he'd have to find lugs also. Is this pretty standard for moving up from the 12"s? Or can I get the it done a lot cheaper myself? -The speedo doesn't work. at least most of the time. the previous owner said it just started doing that. I pulled the cable out and it SEEMS to be intact and no problem on the engine side of things, but most of the time it doesn't tick. Is my speedo shot? if so, how do I get to the speedo? I also plan on new motor mounts, muffler needs replacing, and probably new struts. Besides that and basic tune up stuff, what are some common things I should check out on it? There's some slight clanking on sharp turns which I think is the CV joints?? not too bad though. Any quick mods I can do to increase fuel efficiency without spending a ton? I've got lots of questions and hope to find lots of answers here! looks like a good clean forum form what I've seen so far. Oh, I'm in the DFW area (Arlington) if anyone knows of good places to get parts nearby. -Bobby |

Got 70 MPG?

Nice, clean looking car you have there, probably rust free as well I'm guessing? Good find! ![]() Most people with older Geos got to 13" wheels for a little better gas mileage without sacrificing too much added rotational mass for city driving. You will need to get Gorilla lug nuts with the bulge seat though, that's what the guy at the tire place was talking about. Your speedo cable is most likely broken internally, Rock auto should have some in stock for around $30 or so. This is a common thing to go out on these cars when they get older. CV joints are another common part that needs periodic replacing on these cars. Check out the how-to section on how to rebuild the CV joint without having to buy a brand new one. Save you some $$$. ![]() Crawl under the car and check out the frame horns, these are the killer of these cars if they are rusting. You should be fine though if this car has lived it's life in TX. To increase MPG's, drive like you have an egg between your foot and the gas pedal. I have hypermiled a bone stock Geo all the way up to the low 60's before, but it takes a lot of experience and time to learn how to do that. |

Welcome to the forum. I have a source for the lug nuts you need. Complete set $25.00 shipped. that is a total of sixteen bulge lug nuts. I dare you to find cheaper. Gorillas are about six dollars a set (one tire's worth) plus shipping each. Good luck to you. |

Welcome to your new forum, Rncf87! For DIY motor mounts take a look at http://geometroforum.com/topic/4306632/1/ Struts: eBay search: 1992 Geo Metro KYB for $158.02 shipped. I used Simple Green when I cleaned my Geo and it had a nice fresh smell. |

Thanks for the links and advise! Nope it was not a harley, definitely a honda shadow. harley is too rich for my blood. maybe someday though... And it is a manual. It's bad enough going from a bike back to a box on wheels, so my two requirements were that it have A/C and be a standard. I still want to feel like I have SOME kind of control. I called a salvage yard nearby and the have a 92 and 95, so hopefully Friday I'll have time to go see if I can get any good parts off them. Anything I should look into grabbing while I'm out there? Supposing of course that no one has taken all the good stuff yet. |
