Well, the radiator fan motor was about to go out so I got proactive and bought a new one off of Ebay. It sucked because the shroud didn't fit my 94' (Even though it said it did). So I took everything apart and luckily I got the new motor and fan mounted into the old shroud. Installed it into the car, did a test drive, and called it job done. Now the old fan was still working and keeping my engine cooled down to just under halfway on my temp gauge. However, as I was driving home the next day, after installing the new fan, the temp gauge was all the up to the red. After some investigation, I've found out that the previous owner hotwired the fan from a connector up on the block to the connector down at the fan. I'm not sure why this was done but now I don't even know where to start trouble shooting. I took out the hotwire bypass and drove around but the fan never came on. I put it back in, just in case, but what scenario would have caused them to hotwire it? Also, in what direction is the fan supposed to turn? Right now it's blowing through the radiator, shouldn't it pull the air through? Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section but I'm not sure where the problem is. |

As I understand it, the fan is connected to a temperature switch near the thermostat housing. When the temp switch turns on, it tells the computer and the computer grounds the fan to turn it on. |

So maybe the temp switch is faulty? I'll check it out. |

I just wanted to post an update in case anyone else has this problem. The fan I got off of ebay ran backwards. I don't know if my wiring is reversed in my car or if the fan itself is wired backwards but I turned the plug over and just jammed it in until it made contact and it now runs the correct direction to pull air through the radiator. I put a piece of wire in the connector for the fan switch and it runs all the time now when the car is running. I'm going to fix this but no one had the part in stock and I just haven't ordered it yet online. Engine is staying cool, even with the A/C running now so everything is working. Now on to the next problem... |
