Rework time. You need a crankshaft sensor. You need the oil pump that will hold the crankshaft sensor. You need the '96 oil pan. You need the distributor from the '96.

You will most likely find these parts on your old engine, unless you traded it in as a core. :smackface

Fear the Mullet

Oil pump, oil pan, lower crank gear, cam gear (if different), timing belt, and sensor all need swapped over.

The newer oil pump, when bolted to the block, actually looks like part of the block. Remove the oil pan and look at the bottom of the block where the oil pump is. You'll see where the oil pump meets the block.

The bottom of the oil pump made for the crank sensor has a hole in it for the magnetic crank trigger.

The magnetic crank trigger depends on a toothed ring behind the 5 bolt crank sprocket to fire the crank trigger. (The older 4 bolt crank sprocket does not use the crank trigger and only has a round ring NOT a toothed ring) The newer sprockets are square tooth and wider than the older round tooth narrow sprockets.

Someone on here just jumpered the distributor mounted sensor to the wires for the crank mounted sensor and has their car running. Don't know any more details about it, but I remember him saying it a couple of times.

Did you connected the crank trigger wire?

regarding the sprockets, did you also replace the cam sprocket?

Timing marks lined up ok?

Ground wires attached to the back of the intake manifold?

Ground wire and coil wire attached to the distributor?

Gas in the car? lol

yes hooked up wire did not change the cam sprocket thay looked the same??, i did not move the cam or the crank and both lines were straight up and down lined up,i did hook up the white connector for the distributor, coil wire is hooked up but no fire getting to it? i pulled the wire off number 1 plug and no spark, yes ground wire is hooked up, i hooked it on top of the intake would that matter? not the back, n yes i put 10 dollors gas in it just in case ,lol also u time it by the number 1 cyl top dead and button pointing @ the number 1 on the cap right?

You must change the toothed ring behind the crank sprocket and you must not use an oil pan gasket.
