Paid $1750 for my 94 XFI several years ago. They've increased in value since then. Mine had new clutch, new tbelt, new exhaust & rims too. Better not wait until the weekend if possible. Might be gone. Go with CASH in hand. Maybe you can dicker some. I've missed a couple XFI's since that sold for $700-$1200 & they were gone within hours. |

so it turns out the XFI I had my eye on was sold before I had a chance to go look at it. I'm in the Nashville, TN area and will be on the lookout for one. Hopefully I can find an 89-94 XFI 5 spd to restore/pimp out. |

"before I had a chance to go look at it." --- There is your problem. with gas as high as it is you have about an hour or so after the ad appears to get to where the car is at and either purchase it or turn it down. |

What do you guys think of this? It's been CL for a while, I think because of the high price. http://tricities.craigslist.org/cto/2912150980.html It's an older fella, and he won't budge from 3,000 flat for it. He says its super clean , only the AC blows hot, top has "minor" hail damage, and minor surface rust that doesn't show in the pictures. It's 4 hours from me, so I can't just take take a look at it at a whim. What do you guys think? |

It's clean, would I pay 3,000 for it? No. But I am cheap and buy my Metros to be cheap. However, I have no doubt he'd get 3,000 if he listed it on eBay. |

You're right. He also said it has a new clutch. So, it seems to be a generally clean ride. Also said the 5 digit speedometer says 16,000, so it's probably 116 since it's clean. but how can I be sure? Wouldn't a car fax report have the mileage everytime it came up on the grid? |

Since he won't budge from $3,000 you can figure it gets maybe 47 mpg. So if you are getting 25 mpg now the difference is 22 mpg (220mi/tank) at $3.60 per gallon or $17 per tank or $884 a year. Maybe 2 years of saving gas while driving a fun car to break even on a reasonable price for the car. And you can never be sure unless you see the car if it has rusty frame horns, needs a rebuild, has bad wheel bearings or whatever. I have not dealt with carfax but 116K is reasonable and getting close to time for a rebuild if the car has not been well taken care of. At least look at the cost of a tune-up after you buy it. |

No. No Metro ever came with A/C standard, it was always an option, not available at all on the XFI. (from the factory, lots of dealers put A/C on XFI's) Edited by Woodie, May 8 2012, 05:10 AM.

Thanks for the info. I've got my eye on an 89 LSI 4 door that looks decent. I'm trying to pry more info from the owner. Its 200 miles away though, so I'm gathering as much info as I can before I head out. Im in Middle TN, and the car is just south of Louisville, KY |
