So, I'm still looking for that elusive first car folks. Turns out this car I went to see was a little rusty underneath, so I declined. Does anyone here own one of the 1998-2001 metro sedan 5 speeds? How were the MPG on those? I understand there was a base model at some point with the 1.0 engine in it, and the LSI with the 1.3. Thanks for your help everyone.

Bogs has a 4dr sedan.
One can expect to get in the 30s for mpgs....and up towards 40 on the highway.
Seems like people from Kentucky have a harder time finding their first metro :hmm
Keep looking.....you'll find your car :)

Well, Bogs has a '96 ;) not a '98-'01 as Blas was asking about. I am also apparently peculiar in my driving habits, aside from having a JBD built 'guino I am not a conservative driver, nor am I a hot rodder anymore, I merely keep up with the flow of traffic most days. Meh, its a commute :lol

Having said that, I do tend to experiment with the car to some degree, when I do I note those times in the log I keep. But for my regular commute, which is 90 miles round trip, 1.5 miles to the highway , several elevation changes on the highway, and 1.3 miles at the work end, then the reverse going back home, here are the last several tanks in a '96 1.3 cyl / 5spd. 4 dr. sedan copied directly from my program log -

2012-04-19.....096,324.7.....07.166.....$30.09.....50.05582.....No changes made.
2012-04-25.....096,746.3.....10.094.....$40.67.....41.76739.....No changes made.
2012-05-02.....097,112.6.....07.857.....$31.42.....46.62085.....No changes made.
2012-05-09.....097,539.8.....09.683.....$38.33.....44.11856.....No changes made.
2012-05-16.....097,907.6.....07.984.....$30.97.....46.06713.....No changes made.

The 50 mpg one was an extreme oddball week, there was a lot of construction on the highway portion in both directions and traffic for a great portion was tooling at about 40 mph, I wouldn't count that as a normal week.

Similarly, the 41 mpg week was abnormal in that I had a lot of short back road trips and time off and was almost never on the highway. Not bad for mostly city driving.

As always, YMMV, no animals were hurt in the production of this post, Duct Tape saves lives, yada yada yada, ...

How should I say your name? I keep reading it "ball sack" and I know that's wrong.

I'll take more pics later. I'm currently taking notice of what things it needs. Gonna try and get it to tip top shape. My daily commute is 40 miles so this should beat my current maxima(22mpg).

I got the fella down to $2250, from $3000. I still feel like I paid top dollar, but it's super clean. I'll put a little more money into it to clean it up, and I'll make my money back in gas mileage in less than two years.
