My metro is losing power and I lost about 2 MPGs since it started happening. The engine was rebuilt and was running great till about two weeks ago. Any suggestions? |

Have you checked the compression? Who rebuilt the engine? |

I have not. There's a guy in town who buys metros, fixes them up and sells them. Like I mentioned early, it ran fine and now it seems sluggish and has a hard time going up a slight incline. It also sounds as if it idles high. |

Here's a how to on compression testing: http://geometroforum.com/topic/2574993/1/ Catalytic converter: http://geometroforum.com/single/?p=558947&t=4464045 or remove the Catalytic converter at the exhaust manifold and see if it runs better, louder but better. And you might check the distributor for cracks, moisture and worn posts and how old are the plugs and plug wires? Your profile does not list the year of your Geo, automatic/manual, # cylinders? What if anything was done just before the change? New gas, parts? |

My metro is a 1992 two door hatch back. It's a three cylinder 5 speed manual. NO parts have been changed since I bought it. I will say that I have noticed a loud hissing noise which has a flutter sound to it the more has I give it at higher speeds. I haven't had a chance to work on the yet. There are a few other things that are wrong with it such as a high vibration at high speeds. Feels like the tires are gonna vibrate off of it. |

Yeah, gotta stick your head under the hood and inspect stuff before moving on. The vibration may be loose lug nuts, bad wheel bearings, bad tie rod ends or tie rods. Also swing arm bushings. ;ppse brake calipers and the frame could be rusted and breaking. PLEASE check the steering parts ASAP! Start by just grabbing the wheel and see if it moved in and out. Best done with the car on a rack but you can grab the top of the wheel and see if it moves in and out. Then grab it at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock and see if it is easy to twist, has movements or clunks. Grab the steering arm (tie rod) and see if it has any in/out movement. Inspect everything else. |

I think it might be the tie-rod ends. Plus, it makes a hard clunking noise when I go over a small bump or pot hole. I try to avoid them as much as possible but the roads here in Portales NM suck. |

Well it took a while for me to make time to work on the met, but I found my problem. It was the cat. Now for the oil pan. Seems like the ultra black rtv is the way to go. |
