UPDATE- replaced the coolant temp sensor, as it was found to have a nice crack through it, preventing it from making a solid connection. after replacing, the car started right up. its still running a little rough when idling, n that damn alternator belt is still being a lil b*tch, but definite progress is being made. we still have the o ring to the water pump to replace, and getting the idle back to normal after all the adjustments. then its on the oil leaks, cv boot, and all the "lil" stuff... id appreciate any feedback or advice though! |

The Alt belt is as you describe. Check to see if the top adjusting bolt has sufficient room for adjustment. I got the same belt for both our cars however om the '96 the length was just long enough that the adjusting bolt was all the way back in the slot. It looked like it was tight and the belt felt tight but it squealed. A 1" shorter belt helped, and centered the bolt in the slot. Still it is a good idea to remove the belt and first scrub the pulleys with steel wool and then clean the pulleys with alcohol. That and a batorback belt is recommended. |

1-3/32" I.D and 1/8" thick. making it 1-11/32" O.D. (1.34375 = 34.1mm) is the one I have. Some members have taken theirs down to a hardware store for a sizing and added some Black RTV to the seal to get it to fit. There is one for sale at http://www.gmpartsgiant.com/Page_Product/PartDetail.aspx?modelYear=1989&model=Metro&make=Chevrolet&catalogCode=15M&majorIndexID=01&isBigPicture=False&minorIndexID=SU0101601 |
