So my wife and I are going for a drive in the country in the 93 convertible with auto tranny. I was coming up on a light and noticed the car was still accelerating, even though I pulled my foot from the pedal. I thought the pedal might be stuck, so I put my foot under it and pulled backwards, but the car kept revving higher and accelerating faster. I then put the car in neutral, and the rpms jumped immediately to around 5500. Fortunately the light turned green and as I made my way through it I put the car immediately back into drive. When I did this, the car seemed to lose power....not electrical power but drive power. I told my wife "well, maybe we can limp home like this" and as soon as I said it everything went back to normal, and we made the last mile to our house no problem. I'm thinking two things that come to mind; first perhaps the TCM (transmission control module) went on the fritz. Secondly, I thought maybe the gas cable somehow became stuck, then unstuck, then snapped back into place. Thoughts??

the automatics have a dual cable, one side goes to the throttle, the other side goes to the kick down on the transmission. check both ends. |

I failed to mention that the gas pedal has a little stick to it. Sometimes I have to give it a bit more of a push to pop it. So t3ragtop, you think one of the cables to the transmission may have stuck? |

I've had the kickdown side cable fray and get stuck but not affect the throttle. But I would check the throttle side for sure though. The tcm would not cause the acceleration you spoke of. |
