Continuing that train of thought, your first response when you see your rear wheel pass you will be to stomp on the brakes. With no drum to hold the shoes on, the pistons in the wheel cylinder will overextend and spray brake fluid all over the place, and there goes half of your brake system. Of course, this won't affect your stopping power a lot because of the "throwing out the anchor" effect of dragging your brake backing plate (and maybe more) on the ground. You can probably fight the wheel enough to get stopped somewhere in the vicinity of the driving lane you were in, but once forward motion ceases, you're done, and it's going to take a hook to get your car home. But as so many have said, give a good pull on the breaker bar when you tighten it up and you should get away with it. |

1 Switch the nuts from side to side. 2 Use a slightly thicker washer to put the deformed part in a different position. |
